For a team that hasn't made it to the NCAA tournament with new coach, every possible "good win" game matters. From the experts last year, we were one good win a way last year from making the big dance. Remember the Hoya game last year? Almost everyone last year is saying what is being said now, "it's just one game." It's not one game it's a missed opportunity. Too add, with SEC not being the premier basketball league for good wins every possible good win for a border SEC team which we are matters. I do hope we get the issues fixed because missing the tourney again with supposed talent we have will be disappointing.

This Xavier team is not as good as the Hoya team from last year. We will be fine, it was the 1st game get over yourself. If we lose to USC upstate at home, then you have a right to panic

This isn't a "border" SEC. This is a 25 win team. I hope everyone is not happy if we barely make the tourney and lose early.

Definitely agree with the thread title. Plenty of time for this season to not be a bust, but the loss is very unsettling.

There is nothing to for me to get over myself about. I didn't say the the season was over with loss but to shrug the loss of as "ah it's the first game," and all is good after that performance is just as miss informed as saying we suck and fire the coach after one game.

All I know is it looks to be the same simple issue as last season. We don't have anyone that can actually shoot the ball consistently, it takes an entire half to warm up and that is not gonna get it....

This would have been a really decent RPI win. Unfortunately, like the Georgetown game, this may be a game that's looked at to keep us out if we are borderline. There will be enough opportunities this year to get big wins. I hope this team gets it figured out.

Tennessee 3 points in first 9 minutes and 44 seconds....great defense??? Gave up 19 layups in game...lost game even though xavier did not score field goal in last 5 minutes 55 seconds

It's the play of the team more so than the fact they lost. We've seen sloppy offense and sloppy defense for two years. With the talent brought in most were expecting better play, we didn't get it. No one to point a finger at except you know who for that. It's a paint dry style of ball. If you're going to play that way at least look like you know what you're doing.

Not really that many opportunities to get your decent OOC road win.

B4A on a neutral might count, but other than that, all that's left is Witchita State.
NCS and VA are at home.

If we are on the bubble, we have larger problems than a loss to Xavier.

Agreed. Like I said in an earlier post, if come the start of conference play, and we are hovering around 7-6, then I'm worried because we lost to someone we had no business losing to and didn't beat anyone with name recognition.
