For years now, my Dad has come and joined me for Tennessee Saturdays on the couch, and it's one of the only things we still do together. During most of the Dooley era (and even as recently as the Oregon game), my Dad would leave at halftime (more specifically in the Dooley era, mid third quarter when it was clear we couldn't adjust), disappointed and deflated, just like the team seemed to be.
Tonight, my Dad and I were cheering through four straight quarters, all the way up until the unfortunate fumble. It was all the great things that Tennessee football used to be about for us. Since the Oregon game, I'm seeing it more and more. No more quit for the team, or for my Dad.
Thank you, Team 117. I know your hearts are heavy tonight, but you should know that what you did today on the field meant the world to both of us.
