Interesting poll article I came across. New ABC-Wash Post Poll shows democrats now support Guantanamo being open. Also support drone strikes against American citizens abroad and suspected terrorists. Just a few tidbits, but the article goes into much more detail.

Repulsive progressive hypocrisy - Salon.com

The survey shows that 70 percent of respondents approve of Obama’s decision to keep open the prison at Guantanamo Bay. . . . The poll shows that 53 percent of self-identified liberal Democrats — and 67 percent of moderate or conservative Democrats — support keeping Guantanamo Bay open, even though it emerged as a symbol of the post-Sept. 11 national security policies of George W. Bush, which many liberals bitterly opposed

Fully 77 percent of liberal Democrats endorse the use of drones, meaning that Obama is unlikely to suffer any political consequences as a result of his policy in this election year. Support for drone strikes against suspected terrorists stays high, dropping only somewhat when respondents are asked specifically about targeting American citizens living overseas, as was the case with Anwar al-Awlaki, the Yemeni American killed in September in a drone strike in northern Yemen

The number of those who approve of the drone strikes drops nearly 20 percent when respondents are told that the targets are American citizens. But that 65 percent is still a very big number, given that these policies really should be controversial.

And get this: Depressingly, Democrats approve of the drone strikes on American citizens by 58-33, and even liberals approve of them, 55-35. Those numbers were provided to me by the Post polling team.

It’s hard to imagine that Dems and liberals would approve of such policies in quite these numbers if they had been authored by George W. Bush.

Their guy = Bad
My guy = Good.

Beyond irritating when this stuff happens. But let's not pretend Democrats and people who automatically vote for whoever has a D next to their name is the only group who says one thing and does another.

Not at all. D&R alike suffer from this mentality.

It really gets to the heart of the issue - it's not about policy; it's about team conducting said policy.

Also further points out the absurdity of Obama getting the Nobel Peace Prize

single handedly set back past NPP recipients years due to questionable validation that was completely unwarranted until BO crashed the party.

Talk about a bag over the head punch in the gut.. SMH

If you are a Democrat or a Republican you are automatically presumed to be an idiot until you present conclusive proof otherwise.

People with brains think for themselves and vote for the man, not the party.

I really think there is a level of pragmatism at play here as well. When I was still in Afghanistan we saw how difficult it would be to close Gitmo, there simply is not a better solution at this point in history (as revolting that may be to some). So, we knew when a new SecDef or President would come in, that no matter what he said publicly the matter was not as easy as it sounded. Once in office, I think we get to the point where the new boss sells the idea to his political base and they line up. That is then reflected in these polls.
