Rumor that the ACC wants to add Cal and Stanford now. Obviously it would be hilariously inaccurate to call them the Atlantic Coastal Conference with that addition. The SEC has now added a good amount of teams from the Midwest.

Big 10 and Big 12 are fine to stay how they are, except they obviously need to change the number.

The PAC-12 is obviously dissolving.

So what should ACC and SEC change their names to?

No conference should change their name, really. The branding is too strong. Southwest Airlines has never changed their name.

I always thought the numbers were dumb.

I understand why they did it with the "Bigs", but really do need to rename.

Change the Big Ten to "Big Ten(t)", perhaps?

Just because you can start a thread doesn’t mean you should

Not only on the geographic front, but Cal or Stanford brings nothing to the ACC in any sport that matters financially. I seriously doubt that will happen. As far as the conference names, that's one thing will not not change during this conference realignment hoopla.

I think someone is blowing smoke with this "report"

That being said, I could kind of see the logic a bit

FSU is making way too much noise about leaving. If they can find a loophole, they're gone and Clemson will be joining them. The ACC could be already anticipating this and looking to backfill two teams. Quite frankly, Stanford and Cal would be the two most name brand options left at this point who are still missing a P5 err 4 err 3.5 seat.

Stanford is not much on the field right now, but they have a decent history and it's a fantastic school. Cal would be a little bit lower on the ladder, but is in the general ballpark.

Honestly in the end, I think Stanford will make a go of being independent for football but it also wouldn't shock me for the ACC to offer those two schools a situation like ND has. Somewhat tied to the conference for bowl tie ins and all that and may play a few ACC games a year, but basically they just do their own thing.

ACC would change to standing for "Always Choking Conference."

SEC to be referred to as the "Super Elite Conference."

End of discussion.

ACC should just be Ivy League 2.

Travel costs are going to kill smaller sports that don’t turn profits.

Global Warming conferences. With all the extra travel, they might prove it actually exists.

No Problem..you call it the All Coastal Conference and keep it as ACC.

We will have two conferences when this is all done. The north and the south. Everything above Oklahoma is the north. Everything blue is the south.
