Baucus is 6'6" 235 lb. TE who has TN in his top 5 along with Michigan, Colorado, Minnesota, and Duke on ESPN. He has a Scouts grade of 76. Rivals doesn't have him in the Top 5 though. Look like a lock for Big Ten coutry.

Jack Baucus - Football Recruiting

"Baucus is a good sized prospect who could develop into a productive in-line blocker at the college level. He is a big kid with long limbs. Carries solid bulk now, but should be able to pack on more good size. He is a physical kid in the trenches who makes good initial contact. Gets solid hand placement and will move his feet. He can create some push off the ball in the run game. Works to stay low and play in a good football position. Can get overextended some and drop his head. Does a good job of getting up to the second level and getting a piece of moving targets. Does a solid job of being able to blocks in space. Will step underneath himself at times, but displays the able to get out and reach a defender. He will hop at times and has some small things to clean up, but could develop into a good blocking tight end at the college level. As a receiver he can be an outlet in the short passing game. He has adequate speed and has long strides. With his size he can be a good target in the red-zone. Has good hands, but can be a bit of a body catcher. Displays good concentration to make a tough grab. Baucus can help some in the passing game at the college level, but will earn his keep as a blocker. Has the size and tools to be a productive blocking tight end at the college level."

QUOTE]
The Arizona Wildcats are set at tight end with Rob Gronkowski, and the future looks good, too, with Jack Baucus committing to UA football team over the weekend.

The 6-foot-6, 230-pound tight end from Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Ill., gave an oral commitment for the 2009 recruiting class.

"I really liked the atmosphere down there and talking to the players it seemed like there were a bunch of good guys," Baucus said in a telephone interview Sunday, "and I think there is a great opportunity for playing time as well."

Baucus, used primarily as a blocker in a triple-option attack in high school, has watched game film of the Wildcats and how they use Gronkowski, and likes what he sees.

"They really use the tight end well and the coaches have told me how (the position) can be used more and I like that," Baucus said.

The three-star (out of five) Rivals recruit should get more chances to catch passes this year as a senior. He caught only eight last year.

Carmel Catholic High has two quarterbacks vying for the starting job.

"They both like to throw the ball and the coach has said we will pass more so I'm hoping to show I can catch as well as I can block," Baucus said.

Baucus said he had offers from Colorado, Illinois State and Northern Illinois, and was about to be given scholarships by Purdue and Northwestern.

Illinois was going to give him an offer to play as a lineman.

"I want to play tight end," he said. "After I get there and if it is best for the team, I will switch, but I want to see what I can do as a tight end and Arizona recruited me to play that way."
