Anybody got any recommendations for where to stay/eat/etc... in Jacksonville for the tournament in March? Places to avoid, etc...

Thanks in advance for any advice.

I lived in Jax for seven years. The one thing I miss as far as food goes, is the seafood. Clark's Fish Camp is good. I actually just went there for the first time last week. I never lived near it, so I tried it on a recommendation while visiting. The little 'hole-in-the-wall' takeout places are also good.

Neptune Beach is the closest beach to downtown if you want to stay on the beach. From the Arena downtown, you take the Mathews Bridge to Arlington Expressway and continue on to Atlantic Blvd., following it to Neptune Beach.
If you want to stay closer to the games, there are several places to stay off of I-95, Exit 344, Butler Blvd.
You could also stay North of downtown, near the airport.

The best shopping and dining is the Town Center, located near the intersection of Butler Blvd. and I-295. Butler Blvd. also eventually reaches Jacksonville Beach.

Jacksonville Landing has some downtown shopping and dining. It's where Tennessee had a pep rally the day before last year's bowl game in Jax.

I can recommend pizza and bbq places too, but I suggest eating some seafood while visiting the coast.

I was absolutely going to this tournament, before I moved. I may still make it though.

To compare to where the bowl game was, the beaches of Jax aren't as pretty as Clearwater Beach, but it doesn't take forever to drive to them either. I think Jax is a very underrated city, because it's overshadowed by Tampa, Orlando, and Miami.

Are there any hotels within walking distance of the coliseum? I can't seem to find any.

Thanks for the other information.

If I was going and I will make it to a SEC tournament one of these days I would call the Arena or check their website and find out about the hotels.

I made reservations at
Hampton Inn Jacksonville-I-95 Central
1331 Prudential Drive, Jacksonville, FL
It's 0.95 miles from arena
Located off I-95 on the attractive Southbank section of the St. Johns River, the hotel has good freeway and downtown access. You're a block from the downtown Skywalk/monorail (last stop: Prime Osborn Convention Center) and a 10-minute walk to downtown over pedestrian-friendly Main St. Bridge. Award-winning riverside restaurants are also a few minutes' walk away, as are the Museum of Science and History (MOSH) and corporate giants Stein Mart and Prudential. Jacksonville International Airport is 17 miles north.
The closest one I found was a Hyatt Regency at 0.63 miles

I'd like to go depending when the Lady Vols play. Only 2.5 hr drive from Cocoa.

Holiday Inn Express on Salisbury South. 8.5 miles away, only staying there because they will take our monster dog. Hope it's good and traffic not awful.

might have to investigate going this year. Wifey has a very good friend and fellow co-worker who relocated to Jacksonville. If timing could match, she could go visit with her friend and me & her hubby could go watch the Lady Vols kick USC butt. :( Wifey is NOT a sports fan at all.

I took Martic's advice and made reservations at the Hampton Inn. I did not realize you could walk across the river on the pedestrian bridge. Nice.

I only made reservations from Fri-Mon. I may have to look for somewhere else to stay. Looks like we may be playing early games. Tough game tonight!!:thud:

because it is just such a ridiculous thing to consider that Tn would fall to such depths.

I went to Clark's Fish Camp today Loved/hated it. It was an unique place. I highly recommend it. I hated it because it was hard to choose what to try and secondly I ate way too much!! Let's hope the 2 mile trek from the hotel to the arena helps to offset some of that! Thanks for the info:thumbsup:

We made reservations all the way through the championship game...optimists I guess:thud:.

And the traffic/construction is awful! Why do they shut down the interstate every night? I know they are working, but, with a tournament and a bunch of out of staters in town, couldn't they close it a couple of hours later for a few days?
