Its annoying to go to a Jake Heaps or Jesse Scroggins thread and get pages and pages of peoples opinions of the two, who they want, or even endless arguments about the Mormon faith. Hopefully people can state their arguments in this thread, and we can keep the player threads on topic. I know this will probably get merged, but i really don't care

I prefer Heaps btw. JMO

Scroggins, only if we take Marve/ Newton. Otherwise Heaps because he can play quicker.

The reason i like Heaps better is because he can come in and start (and be effective IMO) from day 1, which is what i feel we need the most. Don't get me wrong, i love Scroggins, but just keep in mind that Heaps is the staff's #1 prospect, and the staff knows what theyre doing.

This all goes out the window if Marve and Newton come here

Could it really hurt us that bad if Marve and Newton come here? or is that just people opinion? I still think we could get one even if Marve does come here. Newton would just be a added bonus. If Newton came to the hill do you see us using a two QB system so Cam would be an option in short yardage situations?

Either Jake or Jesse would be perfect.

before fans choose either if these two as favorites, they better ask themselves the question, Why is UT looking at a transfer to walk-on and 2 junior college quarterbacks that can be on board in 2010??? (one actually might be able to get here in 2009).

IMO the staff is finding the high school ranks lacking what they need and have turned to more experienced and mature players they feel are "better". I also think they don't see anwers for 2010 on current roster...

Heaps is hands down the better qb of the two. better at looking off coverage, going through his progression, more accurate, quicker release.

I was thinking this same thing the other day. But something in me says Scroggins is the better QB hands down, no matter who we do/don't get in to buy us time.

Don't know which one's a mormon, but if the magic underwear imbues him with magical powers, he should bring his act to UT.

Cam Newton could get here in 09? That would change things drastically.

That would be Heaps. If he comes with rabbits feet and 4-leaf clovers, all the better. I'm down for trying anything at this point.

This is true. Pretty apparent that the coaches aren't overly impressed by any of the QB's in this class.

not getting a QB in last years class is going to hurt us. I still hope we get one of the Scroggins/ Heaps boys.

Scroggins is my pick. He plays against better competition. Heaps is good though.

Better competition according to who? Skyline H.S. is in the same classification as Bellevue H.S. who has been ranked nationally a few times in the last 5 or so years. They are the team the ended De La Salle's most recent multi-year unbeaten streak.

Yes, as a generalization California schools have better top to bottom competition, but don't rule out WA State altogether.

Skyline moved up to 4A last year, Bellevue is still in 3A. Bellevue is just about always ranked around 50 nationally, and whenever they go hunting for out of state competition during good years they usually end up top 25. In 2009 they're going after 2 state champion teams from Texas and California, as well as what appears to be a very weak Canadian team...Skyline has been in the top 10 in most national rankings since Jake has been there, and they will be going after Nick Montana's team from California and I believe Jesuit from Oregon in 2009. Neither team has lost to an out of state opponent and in the recent years they have won every out of state game rather easily.

I'm purty sure he's talkin about Lamaison as the JUCO who could get here in 2009...

Heaps is the best QB imo. The Scouters seem to think so as well (except Rivals). He is the #1 QB in the nation according to Scout, Tom Lemming, and Sporting News. I think Rivals is putting WAY too much stock into his performance at that one combine...

Do you honestly think coaches care what Rivals, Scout etc say about kids as they sign them?

Good point Vader. If we take a JUCO QB, which its almost certian, shouldnt we take the guy with the most potential? That would be Scroggins imo. BUT I would be extremely happy with both.

yea, the guy with the most potential would be the way to go if we somehow got to choose between the two...
