Report: Patriots sign former third-round draft pick WR Jalen Hurd

Former third-round draft pick Jalen Hurd has reportedly signed with the New England Patriots.

he’ll be coming in as a bit of an unknown, assuming his health holds up. Another interesting nugget is the fact that Hurd played running back in college during his time with the Tennessee Volunteers.
The Patriots could clearly use some depth after releasing James Robinson in June. It could potentially open up another skilled position opportunity.

They may use him like Atlanta uses Patterson. In 2021 he had 200+ touches and 500+ yards in both rushing and receiving. Hate the Patriots but hope Hurd has success.

He's missed three years to injuries---first his back, then his knee, then a recurrence with his knee. If he's fully healthy and seriously fit, he may
have a shot to make the team. Odds seem long--but here's hoping he can do it.

Hurd is a match-up nightmare and Belichick has a history of finding roles for these type of players. Montgomery is the former Lou QB that Belichick turned WR. Both are fighting for that spot.

It does seem unlikely that he will make the roster, and he is getting a little too old to be relegated to practice squads. Jalen Hurd's 12 regular season games at Baylor in 2018 comprise the only action he has seen in non-exhibition games (college or Pro) since he famously quit Tennessee during the South Carolina game on October 29, 2016. That's not a lot of football. How could he not be rusty?

Has to be but his workout must have been good or Patriots would not have signed him. The real Q is can he handle the contact.

Belichick has a way of getting the most out of players.

Conditioning test: When Patriots veterans report for training camp Tuesday, they’ll be put through a conditioning test, which former New England running back James White detailed during a co-host appearance on Sirius XM NFL Radio last week. White explained that players must complete 20 sprints of 60 yards each, with a short break of a few minutes in the middle.

Butch was a bad coach, sure, but he quit on his teammates middle of the season.

Can’t respect that.

That's fine if you don't respect it, but we probably all have bad moments from age 21 that we regret, grew, and moved on from. It's time for us to move on, IMO.
