Look, I don't care for Vandy, but I admit that he has done a good job by Vandy standards thus far. I've seen a few posts over the course of the day calling for him to be the next coach of the Vols-or possibly being in the running for the job. Let's keep some things in perspective here:

Thus far, all we've got is an 8 GAME SAMPLE SIZE. Which in and of itself is ridiculous to base his ability to do anything worthwhile at UT off of, but looking at that I don't even see why anyone would want him here. He's 4-4 overall and 1-4 in the SEC. He's beaten Elon, UConn, Ole Miss, and Army. Lost to SC, Bama, UGA, and Arky. All teams that we need to beat. You could say that he hung in there with UGA & Arky but close losses don't get asterisks. He could end up being a fine coach in time, but wanting to hire him here after not even a full season is even dumber than wanting to fire Dooley after two.

Keep the BS about how much more competitive Vandy looks. It hasn't translated into Ws.

Who's said he should be the next coach? I haven't seen anyone here say that, and if they have, then they're probably Clay Travis.

I'll give him credit. This is the best I can remember Vanderbilt ever looking aside from when Jay Cutler was there. If I were Maryland, I would be offering Franklin at the end of the year -- Randy Edsall has been a terrible hire so far. Might not win any more games this season.

I might be wrong on Franklin. He might be able to do with Vandy what Rich Brooks did with UK. Sort of like Kiffin imo.

I don't advocate trying to hire Franklin now(or ever) but watching Vandy play today made me realize what a well coach team looked like. I dislike Vandy as much as anyone anywhere but they play smart with attitude and I can appreciate that. Franklin doesn't make excuses even valid ones. By Dooley continually telling everyone how young and inexperienced we are is not holding the players accountable. A coach should never make excuses no matter how valid they are. Players and coaches have to man up and be held accountable and making excuses isn't the way to get it done.

I wouldn't want this guy anywhere around Knoxville. I'll give him credit for putting some solid games together, but eventually other teams are going to get a scouting report on him. He's also too obnoxious to out recruit some of the better coaches in the SEC. Some are saying that he's the football version of Bruce Pearl. For his and Vandy's sake, I hope not.

Bro, you do realize you're talking about Vandy here, right? Not Arky, not Ole Miss, not miss st, but the absolute laughing stock of the SEC for decades...

The fact that Franklin has changed the culture @ Vandy within the first 8 games of his tenure is unbelievably impressive and speaks volumes about his coaching ability IMO.

And you do realize that 2 of those Ls you mentioned were against teams they had a chance to beat, right? Against both UGA and Arky, they were in the game in the final seconds.

You say "moral victories, who cares" - but it's more than we can say about our game w/ UGA.. And honestly, I'll take a moral victory any day of the week over the pitiful product we've had on the field as of late.

Look, you have to give CDD 2012 and 2013 to see what he can do with a more complete roster. I get that. I've been a CDD supporter, but the way this year is progressing, I'm starting to lose faith. It is what it is...

CF is doing it with none of his recruits . Took a team and made the old players better. Something that could be done at TN with right Coach

Dooley is also under a lot more pressure than Franklin. Dooley inherited a frustrated fan base that is tired of not winning. No one will call for Franklin to be fired if he loses the rest of his games this season. Dooley probably thinks he can be very successful if given enough time and doesn't want our injuries to cost him his job to soon.

Last night former Vandy athlete confessed his biggest fear about James Franklin is that UT will hire him away in two years.

Unbelievable :eek:lol:

I don't believe in culture change after 8 games. They can absolutely **** the bed over the rest of the season and where is he then? Or even next year, after the newness has worn off and they come out looking like the same ol' Vandy, how great will he be then?

All I'm saying is that relatively speaking, he's done fine. But the fawning over him is too much. It's too early to really know how good he is.

Not at all trying to come off as a Dooley defender but I laugh at the love that Franklin is getting for being a .500 coach especially when our guy is essentially the same thing. And I don't feel that he needs to get 13 If 12 isn't a noticeable improvement.

His antics and schtik are causing unnecessary unrest amongst UT fans which will harm Dooley, recruiting and the Vols.

I LOVED him after On Rocky Top but his brand really sux with me. I would not listen to him or buy another book that he writes. Modeling yourself after Paul Finebaum is not a successful plan in my book.

Clay needs to wake up and wise up and realize TN fans brought him to the dance.....

His love for Franklin only rivals Skip Bayless' love for Tim Tebow.
