I think most people understand that Pearce is wreaking havoc despite his moderate stats

I looked up clowneys final year when teams started double teaming him. Clowney played 11 games and racked up 3.0 sacks (13 in his previous year). Pearce already has 3.5 while being teamed

A bit hyperbolic BUT
Pearce>Clowney 👀 👀 👀

Definitely hyperbolic. Pearce is a damn good football player, probably a first team All-American, why isn't that enough?

Pierce was never going to lead our stats this year because teams just scheme away from him. However the real story is that pierce is opening up so many opportunities for other players and NFL scouts are taking notice.

In the NFL there are some premier edge rushers, but their role is like what we see from Pierce. They open up opportunities for not just themselves, but others on the line for stunts and blitz packages. Pierce is also good at screen pass pro when called to do so, has he can crash down the line very quickly.

The broadcaster last night mentioned JP’s numbers and that he hasn’t shined as much as anticipated. It’s not hard to understand, but those around the team know what’s going on. I can guarantee opposing coaches scheme for Pearce.

Not hyperbolic at all. Clowney was always overrated. Good player but never generational. Pearce isn't generational either. He's a really good player similar to Clowney.

All is numbers has came from P4 competition. I don't think NFL scouts will care he didn't inflate his numbers against UTC and Kent St.

Didn’t seem like he played much against the lesser teams. Maybe he wasn’t completely healthy or they didn’t want to risk him to injury in a meaningless game? Whatever the reason, he didn’t record any stats to speak of in those games.

This 100%. The success that our other D-Linemen are having is due in large part to the attention that JP gets anytime he is on the field. Banks' scheme and the overall talent also has a ton to do with it, but as you said, the fact that he is still seen as a top five pick clearly shows how much value NFL scouts are seeing in his mere presence on the field.

His play on RPO runs and screens has been nothing short of brilliant, as he seems to make the right decision routinely and finishes.

Clowney got drafted because of 1 highlight reel play that will last throughout the rest of history. I remember him getting stonewalled against us. James Pearce is actually a vital part in winning us games vs Florida and Alabama.

Clowney and Kearse are more alike comparisons. Pearce as great as he is, is a step below their game and that’s not an insult. JP has the best Dline in college football and he’s a big reason.
