Saw it and loved it. I was just interested in what the many military folks 'round here thought of it.

As a Marine (no such thing as former or ex) I am dying to see it! I am sometimes hesitant about such movies because I can see through the BS. However this one was written by a Marine LCPL and should be true to form! Plan on going soon, was it really that good?

I certainly thought so. I'm really interested to hear what some of you "insiders" think, so post back afterwards.

Saw it last night! I had chill bumps from beginning til end! Come to find out the guy that wrote it was in my old unit. He got there two years after I left. I don't know how the general public will view it. But it is a must see for any Grunt Marine especially those that served in that time period. Its hard for me to explain but it brought back alot of old feelings and I plan on seeing again and then of course buying it when it comes out on DVD.

It is good and bad. Some things are exaggerated while others are not stressed enough.

Movies annoy me in general when they try to depict war...whether they go too far, too short, or just too wide of the scope

U-T nailed this one.

Walked away, just abit hollywood'ed.
I did like it, dont care to see it again, to much script etc.

I would ask that everyone grab a VET,and hug their necks.....I still have one WWII VET(ARMY) to visit, and one Vietnam Jareen i owe that hug too. Both will blow you off, and curse at your affection.
One i know is sadly, beyond his years(age) WWII, We lose those guys by the 100's every day  (cant touch how i feel about them),That Nam Jarhead, stubborn bastard!

Off topic as for the Movie, i know. Cant hate on a man for serving his country, that happens to be very proud of those that come before/after him.

Boot camp training was not stressed enough.

Iraq portions were all over the place.

Would like to have seen the movie extended more to cover the middle portion of the movie and maybe an extension to the ending.

Hard to fully explain unless you have gone through it.

Jamie Foxx is da man!! I look for another OSCAR out of this one!! I enjoyed the movie and thought the script was well written..........maybe over exaggerated in some parts, but that's the power of Hollywood. I recommend anyone who hasn't seen it... GO SEE IT!!
