On the USA team...

http://www.usabasketball.com/mens/u18/12_mu18_finalists.html

23 players were brought in, list was trimmed to 14 after a few days of practices, and the list will be trimmed to 12 after the weekend before departure to Brazil.

Jarnell Stokes & friend/UT recruit Austin Nichols both made the first cut. Would be great for both to make the final roster and get some more time playing together an hanging out, definitely isn't hurting UT's chances.

Also, great competition and experience for jarnell, should definitely help him out in his progression, I expect big things from him nex year.

That's good to hear. Hopefully he can sway Nichols a little more in our direction as well.

Yes. Stranger things have happend and no reason why we can't land Nichols. Stiff competition for her services but were in the mix.

Great for Jarnell!

OP--any true chance we have a legit shot at Nichols?

I've thought for awhile and still do think we land Nichols when it's all said and done, so yes we definitely have a chance, IMO a very good one.

Duke getting involved definitely hurt our chances, but duke adding a very similar player to Nichols in amile Jefferson and now stokes and nichols who are fiends teaming up for team USA, I feel our chances have gone back up.

At this point I still believe he ends up in orange, but I wouldn't be shocked if he didn't.

BTO, I need a complete rundown of every recruit we're on right now. I need all the details, but most importantly, I need you to tell me who we really have a legitimate a shot at landing.

Surprised no one else has asked you this yet.

I'd be shocked if Stokes didn't make the team. He's the only player trying out with college experience, right? He'll be one of the stars of the team.

As for Nichols... I still think it's a three horse race between Tennessee, Duke, and Florida. Playing with Stokes should help the UT front, but playing for Donovan can't hurt Florida, either.

He's too big to play at UF :)

From today:

"Nichols is part of a talented frontcourt group that also includes uncommitted Julius Randle, Wisconsin-bound Sam Dekker, Memphis signee Shaq Goodwin, Syracuse commit Jerami Grant, Louisville commit*Montrezl Harrell, Maryland signee Jake Layman, North Carolina-bound Joel James and Tennessee’s Jarnell Stokes.

“I consider it truly an honor and a blessing for me to even be nominated for trying out for the team,” Nichols said.

As far as colleges, Nichols says he’s considering Duke, North Carolina, Tennessee, Memphis, Kansas, Ohio State, Florida and Virginia, among others.

Nichols said Tennessee is “also on my list. Coach [Cuonzo] Martin is a great coach, great program. Jarnell Stokes is one of my friends. He’s already had a year under his belt at Tennessee and I’ve heard that that it’s great. I just have to see.”
