The 6'5 330 pound lineman is going to announce today that he is all Vol !!

He said that Tony McDaniel's choice to enter the draft was a big reason and he "didn't get along with the coaching staff at Florida."

Welcome aboard Jarrod!

Nice, Here starts the 5 or 6 recruits that commit to us this week.. Nice pick up by Fulmer.. I am liking this.. he is a run stopping machine..

He also said that UF and LSU were recruiting him to play offensive line while Tennessee was all about defense. He said it wasn't a huge factor, but he'd rather play defense.

His mother really loved the campus...

Barring a huge change, we should land Nick Stephens this week.......and we will land Stephaun Raines. Antonio Logan El announces on Tuesday, and I don't have a great feel for that one....but my guess at this moment would be Penn State. We'd pull off a shocker in the recruiting world if we landed him. I'm not sure who else will be announcing this week, but there are a few who may just end their recruitment this week. Oh yeah, Victor Thomas may be announcing, and we should land him unless we've got some other d-linemen already on board I don't know about. LT Walker would come, but the coaches probably won't take him.

I still can't understand how both Shaw and Raines are ranked so low. I think Raines is cat quick and has good field 'smarts'....he's definitely underrated, should atleast be a three star. Shaw is big, a little too big....will need to lose twenty lbs. or more, but he's got great speed for his size and is also a strong kid. Shouldn't take him long to get that bench up in the mid 400's and should definitely be a 500 guy at some point during his time at UT. I think there's a VERY good chance he is an o-lineman from day one.

Scout has him listed as 6'4 310. Another has him listed at 6'5 330. They'll get him into shape.

Shaw weighed in at about 344 at the Nike camp he went to. I saw his picture from that camp and he definitely has too much fat on him.....his arms even looked to have a little too much fat on them. I think in a program like the one at UT, he should be able to take off those extra pounds of fat, but I think he'll redshirt the first year to learn and tone up.....hopefully he'll shed some of that weight before he hits campus. By all acounts, he's a good kid and a good student. He's also fast, clocking a 5.4 40 and a 4.97 shuttle at his weight. I can't imagine how much he'll improve on that once he sheds some fat. I do think he'll end up on offense though because that's what I've been hearing, especially if we land Mullins(should), Patterson, and possibly Thomas. Mullins is a DT and both Thomas and Patterson could grow into one....although I doubt Patterson will. We also have to keep in mind that JT Mapu will be a DT once he knocks the rust off and we've got atleast one DE that may be moved inside. There will also be two redshirt freshmen at DT in Richard and Bolden. Shaw may get the first look at DT, but Dan Williams did also and still got moved to the O-line despite the good reviews.

utvols83..... what you think about us getting heath??

Not really sure. Obviously it's down to us and West Virginia. He visited WV this weekend. If he came out of that w/o committing to them, then we've got a pretty good shot....especially since his visit to UT would be fresh in his mind on signing day. I really hope we get him because he is a great athlete and a hard hitting safety, but WV scares me a little because of how long they've been on him and his familiarity with that program. He also has some former teammates there. Most consider WV the favorite, but UT has been closing fast.......so him making the visit next weekend would help a ton.

For some who may not keep up with recruiting updates on other sites.....Tim Hawthorne may also come on an official next weekend. He's a great prospect but has developed a big head during the recruiting process....but Troop would deflate it, so I wouldn't mind us getting him.

Why is it that people who are sick and tired of hearing "Fulmer bashing" are the first ones to mention it? If you're tired of Fulmer bashing please don't keep making comments about it constantly.

I seriously doubt he's referring to you CSpin. You actually make substanitive arguments when you criticize. There are a couple around here lately though that have about 3 posts in their arsenal and keep repeating the same stuff over and over again. Personally, I think it's kind of funny, but some people get annoyed by it I guess.

...but you're right. The best thing to do if you are sick and tired of it is to just ignore it.

Why is this considered a good pickup. Scout has him listed as a 2 star. I guess if your looking at potential it could be good, but don't we have enough overweight, sluggish lineman as it is?

Thanks GAVol. I just don't see the point in bringing it up. You always know what comes next. The topic changes course and reverts to cursing, spitting, etc.
