I've not been able to to read or catch any info on his condition.
I watched the play and once was all I needed to see (I'm glad I haven't seen any tasteless pics posted such as I've seen about Prothro in some places).

I hope his career isn't over----wishing him well.

Any word?

1st post from this Bama fan. I believe in class and in being a good sport.

Vols' Jason Allen Remains Positive, Appreciates Fan Response
by special report to The Chattanoogan
posted October 11, 2005

KNOXVILLE -- Tennessee’s Jason Allen vows to come back “bigger, faster, stronger” after suffering a season-ending hip injury during Saturday’s game against Georgia.

The senior defensive back said his hip came out of joint but went right back in during the collision with Georgia tight end Leonard Pope late in the first half. Allen made the tackle but was taken from the field on a stretcher. X-rays and an MRI were performed at UT Medical Center before Allen was discharged that night around 9 p.m.

“It was painful, but right now I’m just taking it one day at a time,” Allen said. “It’s nothing major. People want to compare it to the Bo Jackson injury, but his came all the way out of place and mine wasn’t that serious.

Allen will be on crutches for 6-8 weeks, after which he will resume walking on his own and begin therapy with the UT Sports Medicine Staff.

“It’s just an injury that happened,” Allen said. “It’s not going to hold me down and I’ll be back stronger than ever. I’m staying positive and I thank all the fans and the student body for their support. I really appreciate it.”

The Vol captain noted that he made the first (2003) and last (2005) collegiate starts of his career against Georgia in Neyland Stadium. In between, Allen garnered All-SEC status in 2004 along with third-team All-America honors from Associated Press. He led the SEC in tackles last season with 123, becoming the first non-linebacker to lead UT in tackles since records began in 1970.

Allen was Tennessee’s leading tackler again this year when the injury occurred.

“I was really blessed to represent the T on the helmet and to represent the University of Tennessee playing football,” Allen said. “I appreciate everyone who has been there for me throughout my years there, starting with the president and the athletics director, Coach Fulmer, all my coaches as well as the support staff and the fans. I appreciate everyone and always will be a Volunteer.”

The Muscle Shoals, Ala., native has received medical consultation to date from Dr. James Andrews of Birmingham, Ala., and Dr. Thomas Byrd of Nashville. Andrews is a renowned orthopedist, while Byrd’s specialty is hip injuries.

For now, the recovery has begun for one of the leaders of the Tennessee football family.

“Emotionally, the most difficult thing for me is not being on the practice field,” Allen said. “Knowing I can’t practice, can’t run through the T and can’t be there with my teammates -- that’s probably the hardest thing right now. I’ll get back where I need to be and prepare myself for the NFL.

From a physical standpoint, I’ll get back where I need to be and beyond that. I’ll get back bigger, faster, stronger.”

Allen encourages fans wishing to reach him do so by e-mailing to his campus address: jallen8@utk.edu.

“I appreciate all the e-mails and cards from the fans,” he said. “I can’t tell you how much I appreciate them.”

If im not mistaken, a hip dislocation is probably worse than a fracture. Seems to me like former Vol Deon Grant had to have his hip replaced after dislocating it. Point is if a hip is dislocated, it never wants to stay in the socket after weakening the walls that hold it in place.

I could be wrong, but I think I read that somewhere.

Thanks for the info.

I admit I did compare his injury to Bo's, which I also saw on TV live
as well. Jason's just looked worse to me, but I hope that's not the case.

I read somewhere that nobody thinks it's as bad as Bo or Deon Grant's hip injuries were.

Yep...I'd be intrested to see what kiddiedoc says about this, in the news post above it speaks to it some.

Yeah, Everything ive read says that it isnt as significant of an injury. Mostly because the hip popped out, but went directly back into place.
I'm sure there is still going to be a ton of evaluations etc, As he begins to recoup and rehabilitate.

I saw the play up close and on replays and i think its allot worse than what the talk is about. We would need him more than anything at the Alabama game but we all know thats not gonna happen. if we get him back be4 the ND game i will be shocked outa my mind. We all knew we were gonna lose someone with the next 3 games comin up. Lets just hope we dont lose anyone to BAMAs defense.

best of wishes to JA!

Hope they can figure out some way to ride him in with the team through the 'T' next week.

I think they ought to put him on an ATV and let him come out of the tunnel and do doughnuts on the Alabama logo next week.

That would be sweet. Of course he would have to have flag in hand so he could drive it into the ground when he's done with the doughnuts.

How much do you want to bet that there is Fulmer/doughnut joke in the near future of this thread?

just a ?:
before he got injured he was gonna be a top 15 draft pick, now that he's injured how do you think that will affect his future in the NFL knowing that the lower you go the less $ you make..

I have wondered about that myself. I guess the biggest factor is going to be how serious the injury really is.

I don't even want to think about it. It makes me sick thinking about what he gave up to come back and the possibility that he may have lost it all.

Hopefully he can rehab in time to make a good showing at the Combine.

That has to be tough on him.

It all boils down to what he does at the combine.

He will have about a dozen specialist clear him and send their findings to the NFL, if they clear him and they should he will still be a 1st round pick.

The Jackson injury and the grant injury were both worse since there was bone broken which can cause big problems. Allens injury had no cracks or breaks.

he has the mental toughness to come back so Im positive he will be fine :cross:

maybe he'll still get drafted by a team trying to get a steal with a player who would have been one of the best if not the best CBs in the draft.. didnt the Bills take Willis Mcgahee in the first round even though he tore some knee ligaments?.. and that was a horrible injury..

At the state of mind he was at and the talent he had there is no doubt in my mind someone would have picked him up. If he can get back to the same condishion he was at he will play pro ball for sure. its gonna take allot of rehab.
