I'm pretty sure that they don't call it a "batting slump" when it's just that you're old, broken-down, and can't play anymore. Varitek was never that great to begin with, and now he's a 36-year-old catcher. He's done.
I believe its OOPS Kevin Cash.Looks like he's making $11m this year. He's going to have to take a big pay cut next year if he wants to play anywhere. Although I don't think there are any big-name catchers coming into free agency this offseason, so I don't know what the Sox will do. Do they have anybody in the system to replace him?
They have a guy in AAA that might be able to give them League Average offensive stats. Don't have any idea about his defense though.Oh yeah, that guy. He can't hit either. Definitely poor planning on the part of the Sox if they don't have a guy in the minors whom they're grooming to take over. It's not like Varitek hasn't been getting old for awhile now.
