Jeff Gordon and that 24 team are absolutely getting owned right now by the 48 team. As was the case a couple years ago, the 1.5-mile tracks are going to be the ones that do the 24 team in. Johnson and the 48 team are simply better than Gordon and the 24 team on those tracks. To me, it seems like Gordon doesn't have the drive and intensity that Johnson does. While Gordon was bringing in average finishes at Atlanta and Texas, Johnson was finishing out races, like Gordon used to do, and winning them. If Gordon is going to make up some ground he better do it this weekend at Phoenix where he won in the spring. If not for Johnson wrecking at Charlotte Johnson's point lead would be bigger than it already is.

Being a lifelong Gordon fan, it's disappointing to see how his intensity is not what it used to be going for a championship. I don't care if he is the part owner of the 48 and teammmate and friend, after the race he says "i'm happy for Jimmie and those guys." How can he be happy that his closest competition is owning him. That's not the Jeff Gordon I used to follow and it's disappointing. If he doesn't have that intensity he needs to hang it up.

I think you're totally wrong about Gordon's intensity. Jeff Gordon is pissed about the current situation.
"I'm just mad that we sucked tonight, that's all," Gordon said after finishing seventh Sunday night. "The car was good at the end. We just couldn't ever get it right earlier in the night. I'm disappointed with that."
"Thirty isn't much," Gordon said. "The biggest thing right now is that we're just getting beat and those guys are winning races. We've got to put some pressure back on them and outperform them."

Gordon believes his teammate is "spanking us." That's what upsets him the most.

"They're putting it to us," Gordon said. "I don't like it. We're very competitive and we're just getting beat. We've got to go to work. We've got to get it back."

It's Johnson who is laid back and along for the ride in the fastest car out there.

I agree that Johnson has as good of equipment as anyone on the track and I would also take Knaus over any crew chief in NASCAR but Johnson is a great driver too. He finished 3rd at Watkins Glen this year and he has won on every other type of track in NASCAR.

Don't count Gordon out just yet. He is only down by 30 points with two races left. All it takes is one flat tire or one wreck in front of Johnson.

All it takes is 2 wins by Gordon and even if Johnson finishes 2nd it would be tied and Gordon would own the tiebraker 10>9 on wins

It looks like Gordon is done now. If I were him, I'd raid Johnson's team.

And screw the new points system; it has cost Gordon 2 championships.

the current points system is an absolute joke. NASCAR has totally blown the purity of crowning a champion due to season-long success. The 24 was the most consistent all season, and they've been just as consistent in the chase, but the 48 has got hot and won 4 in a row now. It's all about trying to create a "playoff", which it isn't, and competing with the NFL, which it can't, and cater to the fans. It fails in all of those aspects.

Yeah... winning 4 in a row near the end of the season is sneaking in through the backdoor.

I hated the old system because it didn't reward winning races enough, imo.

Doesn't matter... Jimmie will win another title and all of the haters will come up with more lame excuses for Dale Jr next year and blame Hendrick...

I happen to like the chase better but regardless, the races have just become too boring for me to watch more than maybe 25% of the race.
You have so many have nots who's only purpose is to
stay in the top 35 in owners points and a small handful capable of trying to win.I don't know how you fix that except to hope a few teams can do a ton of catching up
to get competetive before Daytona next year.

Actually Johnson is owned by Gordon but has been dominated by him of late. Personally,I don't care for JJ at all, one of my least favorite drivers. He's a good driver, just don't care for him.I like JR and Stewart better.

I'm no fan of Gordon, but as far as I'm concerned he wrapped up his 6th championship 2 weeks back. Congrats Jeff
