Jemere Hendrix To Be Reinstated To Basketball Vols

There is also mention that Mechchem might join the team... Very Interesting, maybe it will help his hand-eye coordination.

"Another basketball talent on the UT campus that Pearl might consider is 6-3 footballer Robert Meachem, who was a star point guard in Tulsa, Okla. In fact, Meachem guided his high school hoops team to two state championships."

I'll believe it when I see it. Granted, we are desperate for post players, especially rebounders (Hendrix was never much of a scoring threat), but he's a thug. Plays out of control. Almost started a couple of fights on a couple of occasions last year. Racks up all kinds of cheap fouls. I honestly hope he's not reinstated: I don't think it sends the right message. With him, maybe we go 17-12 instead of 16-13. Not that big of a deal.

Downtown, you are correct, last year he committed some fouls that were just to foul and foul hard. I think if Pearl reinstates the guy, he will as quickly jerk his ass of the team if does what he did last year.

This team is totally different than last years, psyche and all.

I do think he would give the team added depth and would make a difference in at least two to three games. Remember, he is a rebounder and this team puts up a TON of shots. more offensive rebounds is the difference between winning by one or losing by 8 against a tough opponent.

Hendrix is a truely terrible player, I was glad to see him go. Last year to get to the NCAA tourney or have a shot at the NIT we need to get to the championship game or win it, we beat a good team 1st round and beat them good, second round Hendix got in a fight we Kentucky before the game and they came out on fire and killed us, he doesnt have a basketball mind and is a terrible player, I hope they dont play him a whole lot.

Good ole Doc Hancock must have upgraded his drug of choice to some type of hallucinogen.

It would be nice to have him back but let's think about this and where the "story" is from This is the same place where it was reported the Trooper and Chavis were at odds and TT was going to be released. For that reason I say it isn't going to happen.

lets start a count of how many stories this guy has the "inside source" and then see how many are true.. I would think unless he gets it from another media source then it is probably something he is posting here to show how many "hits" he can bring to his RAG.

We don't need thugs to win. I mean, sure, there are talented thugs out there, and Jerry Green recruited plenty of them (Tony Harris, Harris Walker, Terrence Woods, et al.) I just don't think you can build a consistent winning program if you recruit players who have constant discipline problems or an "it's all about me" mentality. In the NBA, sure, thug it out, but you've got to have teamwork and chemistry and work ethic in college hoops.

Tony Harris was an All-SEC defensive team selection, led the league in steals, and was a 4-year starter during our best era in the history of the program. He was an outstanding bball player that would wear you out with his defense. People remember the incident in the Kentucky game, which he had no part of except going to the area of the court they were fighting at to help break it up.

Tony Harris was one of those guys that scared both the opposing coach and HIS coach every time he had the ball in his hands.

 This guy is a true idiot.... I really think his "inside sources" are just feeding him bull to see if he is dumb enough to report it.... Meachem will never play for Pearl, he is our best WR and he has been battling injuries all season, no way Fulmer will let him play basketball with the chance of getting injured... wasn't it Richie Gandy who got injured in a pick-up game and missed time this season.. I wouldn't be opposed to him coming back but Hendrix was dismissed and not suspended so I think it might send the wrong message to the team if he came back, doubt it happens.
So far he has predicted:
1. David Cutcliffe as OC- me you and grandma saw that one coming
2. JRS, PW will be fired- duh
3. Randy Sanders as co-OC and WR coach- whoops
4. Hiring a full time special teams coach- nope
5. Larry Slade retiring- I wish but sadly that was wrong too
6. TT leaving and Sparky Woods as RB coach- both wrong
7. TD Woods as WR coach- umm...
Well so far he has predicted everything we already suspected and was wrong on everything else what a joke

Tough, Tough, Tough, :aggressive: Could we use a big body to give others a blow, could we use a ballhandler to give CJ foul recovery time, probably everyone would say yes to these two points. Once we get into the heart of the conference schedule and the newest of CBP has worn off and the injury bug hits us, we will be in need of these people. My point is and I am pretty sure that CBP can handle this situation. JH has made mistakes, former CBP did not have the handle on the situation that our present coach has, RM is an athlete that has played both sports equally well, he could help. I think that under the circumstances whatever Coach Pearl decides, we as good Volunteer backers need to agree with his decision. As for me I say lets have both on the team and let the Coach do his job. Man I have no complaints so far. Best of Luck, Coach Pearl. :twocents:

Good for him. Hope his ways have changed and he doesn't become an embarassment to UT again.

His apology, how many of you would have done that, seriously? That made one hell of a statement.

Now show us you mean it and play with passion.

There is no "I" in team, but there sure as hell is an "I" in Tony Harris. Harris was a great talent, Jmx... not questioning that. He was one of the quickest players with the ball I've ever seen, possibly the quickest UT has ever had. But I saw him launch so many hopeless, pointless, selfish shots while guys were on him like a blanket. Occasionally, one of those shots would fall for him, sure, but not very often. As far as point guards go, give me C.J. Watson any day; he may not have the raw talent of Harris, but he has a pretty good outside shot and makes (mostly) smart decisions with the ball. Harris also had guys like Yarbrough, C.J. Black, Isiah Victor, etc. to feed the ball to; far above the likes of Brandon Crump, Major Wingate, and (oh yes) Boomer Herndon.

Tony Harris was a thug, he didnt run down to break up the fight he ran down and immedietly threw punches, I was sitting 3rd row for that game I can remember it clear as day, he was a complete idiot with that move.

You're taught to come to the defense of your teammates.
That's just one situation that got out of hand...give me 3 or 4 examples of him murdering, mugging, or raping someone and we might refer to him as a thug.

you dont need to murder or rape someone to be called a thug, or mug someone, you name me one Vol period in any sport that has been arrested for murder or rape, and mugging no one ever gets caught with that.
