I think that the following should have their jerseys retired next Gene Mcever, George Cafego and Bob Suffridge. They should have had them retired before peyton manning. Since Hart wants to retire more jerseys these 3 should definately be on the list. 28, 72, 42.

I really wish we had stayed out of the jersey retirement business beyond honoring fallen soldiers.

Retire Bates, Kelly, Sr., Creamer, Brandon Wharton, Berry's (both), Harper, and any other father of a legacy. Fly their families in and give them a special weekend. We win because its another unofficial visit we get those guys on campus.

Yeah, agree, with 85 scholarship players and with 100 numbers to give out, they're gonna run out if they keep retiring them. Anything short of a heisman or a key player on a National Championship team, I wouldn't retire any more.

Actually 99 numbers and with just being a "good player" getting your number retired, I can see in my lifetime having to use duplicate numbers.....actually they do now don't they?

My vote is cast for fallen heroes only.

Most teams, UT included, have up to 105 players between walk-ons and scholarships. Duplicates are a must. Retiring numbers in college is kinda silly.

I never understood the point of literally "retiring" numbers.

I mean there is absolutely nothing wrong with simply having a jersey hanging in the rafters and stopping there, but not using that number anymore is ridiculous and makes no sense. The number is arbitrary and has nothing to do with the quality of that particular player.

I like the idea of having. "living legend numbers" for instance. , if you are a the team captain you have earned the right to wear number 16. That number should always be on the field for UT

Good points! :good!:

Think about it Manning's jersey was retired...not after his final game but several years later after the likes Rick Clausen sported the jersey. Also, I'm pretty sure 6 or 7 players wore "92" after Reggie White.
