Because the defensive line for Tennessee played such a pivotal role in the Georgia game, disrupting Greene's game... I thought some props ought to go out to one of the Vols linemen for how he's playing so far this season.

Jesse Mahelona leads the SEC in sacks and tackles-for-loss. Here is an interesting comparison to another defensive lineman who is two-time all-america.....

SEC rank in ( )

Sacks
Jesse Mahelona 4 (1)
David Pollack 3 (3t)

Tackles-for-loss
Mahelona 8 (1)
Pollack 6.5 (3)

Tackles (Ends/Linemen)
Mahelona 21 (6t)
Pollack 21 (6t)

Pollack is good, but he has gotten a lot of milage off that one play he made against SC 2 years ago.

he sure did I thought that exactly pollack is a good DE but not great. The mad hawaiian was being double and triple teamed and still gettin in the backfield...ma'halo braddah!

OT Albert Toeaina played almost the entire game and held Pollack to three tackles. The junior college transfer was less than impressed with Pollack.

"He would just rush to the outside, and I'm like, 'OK, is he going to do anything else?" Toeaina said.

Not to take anything away from him, but he's always had quality guys along side him on the D-line. A lot of times when he comes free it's because he has a RB or TE trying to block him. Still, he did have a couple of moments against us early on - I just think he got worn down from us beating on him and our huge time of possession advantage.

Between that play and the game he had last year against us, they made him out to be a God. Reminds me of Alex Brown.

Pollack is an excellent pass rusher. However, he may have been exposed.... run the ball right at him. He's so intent on rushing into the backfield, that when you get to where he was... there is a huge hole.

Maybe i have been watching another kid from GA named DP. I think the kid is awsome and our o-line did a great job of blocking him. Let's not take away from a great player and a great kid as well. He played hard even when teams (like we did sat) key on him.

I didn't say Pollack wasn't good, I just said we exposed a way to defense/block him properly. Same thing you said about great blocking. By coaxing him to the outside, it opened up the inside rushing lanes. You've got to have a running back that can hill the hole fast for that to work though. Watch the replay, Riggs got alot of tough yards on the inside by hitting the holes quicker than Houston.

Teams did the same thing to Leonard Little when he was at Tennessee. Little was so intent on getting to the backfield quickly, that some teams just ran it right to where he was lined up. Did not take away how great a player Little was, just exposed a weakness in the defense.

:yikes: sorry, just having a flashback....

I hated that guy...

Props to Mahelona and the rest of our D-Line for stepping up on Saturday - I was thrilled to see it. Same for the O-Line - they played tough, gritty and HURT and were it not for both lines, we'd be looking at 1-2 in conference play today. Kudos to them all...
