I’ve just been wondering recently if he isn’t seeing the field because all of our other receivers are playing good or is he not playing because of the Akron game still?

Akron game was just one example. He seemed to be in the doghouse most last season too. This spring there was a lot of talk about him flashing ability but not putting it together. Its hard for some kids, you need A+ practice habbits etc. Hopefully he will figure it out sooner than later. He could have been doing same things as Hyatt if he got things together.

We don't rotate a ton of guys in-game. I'm thinking he can go one of two ways from here. He will either buckle down and work his rear end off like Hyatt did last offseason to become a contributor....or he ends up in the portal. The choice is his. The talent is there. What does he want to get out of it is the question.

I hope he locks in and commits to the process like Hyatt did. He seems like the kind of guy that could be exciting to watch!

Competition creates greatness. Hopefully he is seeing what the opportunities are that are keeping him out of the lineup and is working hard on it. I’ve been beat out at work and it either makes you work harder of you give up. Just depends on what motivates him and what kind of internal fortitude he has in him. Hope the best because this type of lesson creates humble greatness.

It will be a very pleasant surprise if Calloway ever contributes significantly. He's done less in three years than Squirrel White has in two thirds of a season. Less than Walker Merrill has done in two seasons.

Hyatt didn't do anything for 2 years, then boom!

That's not accurate. Hyatt was very good as a Freshman. One of our top WRs already (3rd in receiving yards). He had a Sophomore slump, but still a contributor. And then this year has been a break-out year for him.

Calloway's production has never been close to Hyatt's.

My point is many of us were not expecting much from Hyatt this year. Tillman and Bru were supposed to carry us.

I would like to add that Hyatt was open last season as well. Just dropped the ball. He got better as the season went on. Credit Jalin for working his ass off and showing what he is truly capable of and his coaches and team mates for helping him excel. None of this is possible without them.

Yep. He has said himself he took last year for granted and thought he would be good based off what he did as a Freshman. Kudos to him for busting his tail last offseason. Hopefully that is a great example to all the other young WR's of what can happen with hard work.

I think that's fair to say. Yeah.

But many on here felt Hyatt and his speed could take the offense to another level.

And....

Calloway "housed" the screen pass LY vs Pitt. He has excellent potential but isnt mature enough evidently to process it. I assume the Akron espisode put him back. He might explode next year or he might transfer.....neither one would surprise me.

Patience. Soon. It's coming. Soon.

Just reading between the lines a little bit... I think he might have some attitude issues and poor discipline/coachability in general. I'm a little surprised he's stayed on the roster. Won't be shocked if he announces for the portal.

Very talented guy. Maybe as or more talented than the starters. But you have to align with the culture and play/practice within the system.

Speak for yourself. I predicted Hyatt would have a breakout year. He had all the tools the past 2 seasons; just had too many drops last year. I've always viewed him as a potentially elite WR and said he was our 2nd best WR heading into the season. Maybe never expected a 5 TD game, but definitely expected a 500+ yard season from him.

Calloway ... I'm not sure. I've seen glimmers, but really don't know if he'll ever become a great WR or not. He has the tools, but as we all know, that's not always enough.

Yea, he did something like 10 zillion catches per day all summer long. Got to respect a guy who’s willing to put in the work like that. We have a number of high character young men who work hard on and off the field. I think Byron Young is another example. I am so glad coach Heupel has made it fun again to play football at Tennessee.
