Anyone watching the Duke-NMSU game last night catch Jimmy Dykes' rant about Coach K and staff dressing in all dark grey/black suits and not calling attention to themselves. For about 5 min, all he kept talking about was how "it's not about me (K), it's about the team," and how you won't see him in any "bright blue jackets."

It seemed a direct reference to Pearl and his orange blazer/body paint. What I'd like Jimmy Dykes to explain to me is, if it's not about Coach K, then why is the court and area outside Cameron Indoor (Krzyzewskiville) named after him, why does he have his own talk show on XM, why does he use Duke's facilities and his practices to teach "business" seminars to C-level execs (and make a bit of $ in the process), and why does he do national advertisements that focus on, well, him?

I have no problem with the things K does, but I do have a problem with insinuating that he's better than others and that things that coaches like Pearl does are wrong.

I guess he also has no clue who Ray Mears is either. Otherwise he'd know the reason Pearl wears the orange jacket.

if Dykes' didn't mention Pearl specifically then I think it's a bit of a stretch to imply that's who he was referring to.

a google search shows that Dykes is known to go off on meaningless tangents, which makes him a perfect fit for ESPN.

isn't Pitino the most obvious choice there

Good point. I think there are a handful of coaches who do this. Maybe Lville fans would assume the same thing. I just immediately thought Pearl b/c it seems as if every time Pearl's name is mentioned, the Orange Blazer or body paint follows.

I listened to a few games Dykes announced last year, including the UNC-NC St. game at State, and he was awful. He got so many names wrong, and his analysis was miserable IMO. I can't recall his specific quotes, but he contradicted himself on several occasions and just sounded dumb.

Maybe I'll change my mind about him this season.
