Alabama's not Michigan...

in reference to why Coach Rod could turn down Bama, say he's a WVU guy then take the Michigan job.

That sound you just heard was the state of Alabama having a collective hissy fit :)

I've never really understood the love affair with Michigan. Call me bias. I know Alabama fans are annoying as all get out, but they have just as much tradition and a willigness to throw gobs of money at a coach just like Michigan does. I think Michigan benefited from timing on the hire of Rich Rod more so than they did on their name.

Agreed. Alabama came calling when he knew he had White and Slaton coming back (because sophomores can't declare). Michigan came calling after the loss to Pitt. Had WVU beaten Pitt, Coach Rod would still be the coach at WVU.
But, it does help that the Big Ten had yet to have one of its traditional powers use the spread offense - Rodriguez will shake things up. I'm not saying the spread is needed to win or that it is necessarily the best way to go. I'm just saying that things will be shaken up in the Big Ten.

Same here.I think the love affair has more to do with the sports media outlets pumping them up for all it's worth.Basically blowing smoke up peoples A$$ Sorry, but if I had to choose it would be Bama over a bunch of Canadian Michigan's Hell once the American Auto Industry takes its last breath you'll see it become like a ghost town in 20 yrs.

Michigan in the Big Ten only has one game a year...OSU.

alabama in the SEC has to play Auburn, LSU, TN, FL, GA etc, etc, etc...year in and year out.

and you still get all the prestige, notaritity, exposure and championship shots you want at Mich that you'd get at Bama.

to me, it's a no brainer.

Not only to have to play them but to compete with them in recruiting. Conditions across the board at Big Blue are much more favorable than Bama.

Plus the Michigan fans are a bit more reasonable.
eh....i don't think i'd use the word "reasonable" to describe either of them. let's just "less crazy".

yep. all in all this i think RR made a good decision.

Hmmm, I would like to see the context In which JJ said this. Nonetheless if it makes those delusional buffoons in Bammer enraged I have to love it.
