They are still paying him almost $10 million severance !

I really went into the wrong profession.

Anybody know what UW is thinking for a replacement? Do they try to woo Peterson back?

Feldman mentioned Sitake at BYU and Jay Norvell at Nevada

Well deserved. You can watch them play and tell how poorly coached they are. Him making ludicrous comments about recruiting as compared to Oregon didn’t help. Then popping a player on TV was the last straw. I’m honestly a little surprised that they didn’t fire him for cause.
My favorite comment of his was after the Montana loss, a reporter asked him if he was shocked and he kind of shrugged and said "I don't know if the word is shocked..." He wasn't surprised they lost to an FCS school.

I would hire Dave Clawson and never look back. Defense be damned.

Washington is another one of those sneaky good jobs...The right hire has proven to be able to win big there...I think it's a better job than Oregon.
It's a good job and great timing with some of the power programs down...you could win there and get into the CFB playoffs

If you take out the Nike money, I would agree fully with you.

Yes, I know a very involved big money booster can create issues, God knows UT has seen that with the Haslems.

In the end though, Phil Knight has paid for all the bells and whistles for the Oregon program. They are lacking for nothing-except maybe wins and trophies on the shelf.

Washington is a fine program though, no doubt about that. Peterson was one of the top five college coaches in the country, and I firmly believe that. I'm just not sure what their ceiling is as a program.

As long as USC and UCLA remain mediocre, the PAC 12 is there for the taking. The right coach can win big at either Oregon or Washington.

Is Knight uber-involved, or does he just write checks?

While I cannot say for sure, have you ever seen someone write huge checks without expecting "insider" access?
There is a difference between wanting access and wanting control. I think they all want access and want to know how their money is going used, but not all of them run the athletic department like their own personal fiefdom. For example when T. Boone was giving all that cash to Oklahoma St, he for sure wanted access and visibility (and tax write-offs) but I don't think he necessarily ran their AD.

This article says that Knight does have a lot of control, which isn't surprising, but I just wasn't for sure.

It's hard to complain about "Uncle Phil" when you keep seeing new facilities going up and that's not just athletic facilities. For example: The "Knight Campus" for scientific research was built with a $500 million donation from Phil and Penny Knight and $70 million in a state bond. Also, the law school and library have received significant donations in the past. The Jon Jaqua Student Athlete academic center is also Nike related money, I think that was $18 million. In all I think the Knight's have donated around a billion to the U of O.

His latest adventure is called Division Street and it is focused on NIL for student athletes.

I do believe he got involved in the firing of a track coach 5 years ago. If he is getting involved with other sports you just don't see evidence other than perhaps funds to give coaches raises.

Well for longest it was well known recruiting visits ended up going to Nike HQ for tours. "Uncle Phil" notoriously stops by campus. You know with the money dropped and his branding all over Eugene that his stamp is all over that campus. For instance if he wasnt ok with that hideous basketball court do you think they would have allowed "into the woods" or whatever its called. Lol
