Saturday I received a copy of the book "Legacy of the Swamp Rat" by Chris Cawood (pleased to find that Dewey "Swamp Rat" Warren had signed it). A few newspaper clippings were tucked inside the book, including a Cawood article about Jimmy Streater who played QB for Battle and Majors during some of the lean years. The article explained how Streater was in a very bad accident which left him without his left arm and paralyzed in both legs. At the time of the interview for the article (not sure when published but definitely since 1994) Streater was living in a nursing home somewhere in NC. Does anyone know if Streater is still alive? If so, does he ever participate in any gameday activities?

The article was wrong. Jimmy's younger brother Steve, who was a punter at UNC was injured in an auto accident and is paralyzed from the waist down. He was on his way back from meeting with Redskins reps who had signed him to a contract.
Jimmy lost an arm but it was from a disease, not an accident. Jimmy passed away about two years ago in a nursing home. He was severely diabetic, from what I read in the Asheville paper. I was very sorry to hear it because I watched the Streaters in high school and throughout their college careers. That family had a lot of tragedy to deal with.

a book in 1998 or 1999 with cahill. it told all about his life growing up, high school, time at UT, his life in the CFL, his addition to cocaine, the brown recluse spider bit and his living in a nursing home and along with his jail time. jimmy was set up at the campus book store for i believe was the opener to the 1998 or 1999 season and was selling and signing his book. he had lost his left arm and was happy to talk about his life. glad i still have the book.

Sadly, I believe Jimmy Streater died a couple of years ago from complications arising from his battle with Diabetes. I saw his first game as a starter in 1977 vs. Cal -- also Johnny Majors' debut as hfc. What a player he was...UT would have been 2-9 that year had it not been for he, Kelsey Finch, and Reggie Harper.
