Will no longer be the manager in New York.

It's being discussed on OTL First Report on ESPN right now.

Offering Joe Torre a one-year deal with a pay cut is basically telling him to go pound sand. I'm not surprised Torre told them to stuff it.

ESPN - Torre turns down offer to return as Yanks' skipper - MLB

I would have turned it down too. They treated him like crap.

They got what they deserved...an 85 win season next year on a great ship with no rudder. Kudo's to Joe for telling them to shove it...not as much the pay cut, but cutting him loose against the wind for more time than is acceptable....if you're going to fire him, fire him, don't let the guy drift.

I bet George is motherforking his daughter for getting divorced, his sons know alot more about racing sailboats and horses than they do baseball.

Did anyone else see the Tampa meetings as alot like the Catskill Mafia Conference years ago? Lots of suits, lots of talk, but outside the gate 'nobody knows nothin!'

Joe Torre I still say is a good manager.

I will agree, to a point. He had world beating talent, but he did a good job of managing egos to keep a team thinking towards the goal. I blame the Yankee stuff on Cashman. When Stick Michael was GM, they had home grown stars, a mercenary or 2, and a bunch of hard scrabble gamers. Now they have superstars in the SS and C, the LF/DH (Matsui) is a gutsy guy and generally hard nosed, and a bunch of mercenaries, and some unproven, though to the moment successful, kids.

I hate the team because they are "Those People", but if anyone should be getting walking papers, or a pay cut, it's the GM.

Why not just say "we are not picking up Torre's contract"

What they did was just plain disrespectful to a man that brought in 4 titles and a trip to the playoffs 12 straight years.

I'll say Joe ends up broadcasting somewhere next year after that he willl land a job with the Braves or Cardinals

I'm a Braves' fan who loves Torre (loved him back when he was our mgr), but I doubt this will happen. You know he's older than Bobby Cox, right?

Joe is the man. The BOSS is finally getting what he deserves, somebody that tells him "You cant treat me like crap and buy my time." Enjoy retirement Joe!

I hope he retires. He'll more than likely make the managers section of the Hall based on the 12 year run, and he's got good money to show for it. Joe, you're beating the **** out of 70, buy a room at a luxury hotel in Cabo. Sit back and be happy for what you've been able to accomplish, stay out of the rat race.

to Joe Torre, :toast: may he finally relax in peace without that sob of a boss breathing down his neck about winning it all EVERY year. You cant buy the series George, and you cant buy Torre either. Again, to Joe ...

If nothing else, he was classy throughout. A real role model for today's players.
