The improvement on D is staggering. To hold Shaw to only 7 (!) completed passes is amazing, considering how bad our D was last year. We also kept Mike Davis in check for most of the game. Take away his long run and his stats would have been quite pedestrian.

We're getting pressure on the QB, we're intercepting passes, and we're containing the edges--finally. What a turnaround. Hats off to Jancek and the entire defensive staff.

and Martinez. Misinformed folk wrote them both off because of a few games/plays while they coached at GA together and discounted the wins and SEC championships they won together. Opinions that Butch only hired them as a stop gap for 2 years for recruiting before bringing in other defensive guys came from the same jackwagons that ran with the Gruden bs.
Db's are playing the ball better than we have in a decade, outside of EB, and we lead the SEC in takeaways.

I agree. After suffering through Sal's 3-4 last year it is refreshing to see 3 & outs late in a game when we need them. And he's doing it with the same guys or true freshmen.

Bravo !

And we are knocking the crap out of who ever we are playing

Definitely. Look at the defense this year versus the s show we had last year. The energy and confidence alone makes me tip my hat to the defensive staff.

It's hard not to improve over a defense that statistically was Tennessee's worst defense ever. But this team's defense has improved even as the year has gone along. And keep in mind, we don't have top tier talent playing on that side of the ball, especially in the secondary.

It has been such an amazing change, I hope nobody tries to pick him up as their coach.

Ordinarily I would say this is a legitimate worry, but coach Jones brought these coaches in as part of a core that have been with him since Central Michigan. Therefore, this would not be so likely, unless he got a head coaching gig somewhere.

Our defense last year was all a product of Sunseri's mess! We were ranked in the top 35 or so 2 years ago so that told you the talent was there. This group plays as a team and believes in the plan. Last year was a joke. Tennessee has regained some mojo!!!

GO VOLS!!!! Brick by Brick

I was happy to finally see Big Dan eating the QB up. Hate the fact Shaw got injured (never want to see a player get injured) but it's way past time that man started creating trouble behind the line.

Let's face it, that's a scary man when he's barreling down at you.

The great thing is our D is only going to be better next year. We will certainly miss Walls, Big Dan, and maybe a couple others, but Vereen and bunch, along with who is coming in will do wonders.

But but but he's a washed up UGA boy and the notion that we have the "best staff in America" was a joke to everyone

The comment about the best staff has been overblown. Butch is a positive man and tries to instill confidence as he knows confidence can be the difference in a player/team.
I guess some wanted him to say he had a mediocre staff when asked while on the podium.
Just as many players think they are better than they are, I expect a coaching staff to think they are the best as well. That's how coaches and elite athletes think.

The whole coaching staff deserves a lot of credit. They're true educators, and they're changing the culture back to what it once was.

+1.........I was a little worried after Oregon, and they looked pretty weak against South Alabama as well......but it is obvious they are starting to gel,and I am thoroughly impressed with them. Great news is they will only keep getting better. It will be interesting to see how well Alabama's power running game will be against us next week.
