Obligatory apology if too off-topic, but I think this story is relevant to understand Alabama's culture... A few years ago I was into this chick who lives in Tuscaloosa... Not just in Tuscaloosa, her family lives in a huge house in The Highlands literally right off University Blvd... This is the heart of Bama country... These people are educated, well-off financially, social elites... So a couple of their friends are over, people are meeting people, chicks are talking inside and all the guys are throwing the football around outside...

Anyway, in the course of conversation amongst the guys someone in our group of people from Cleveland says something to the effect of "Yeah, that's weird, that'd be like dating your cousin or something..." and immediately this one guy from Tuscaloosa yells at that guy "Hey bro, don't knock it till you try it..." and we're all like uh, okay, I guess because it's bama they're in on the joke maybe???

We come to find out later that the guy who said that was ACTUALLY DATING HIS 1ST COUSIN... THEY HAD THE SAME LAST NAME... These aren't people living in trailers out in the middle of nowhere cut off from society, they're not stupid, but literally it was okay for EVERYONE there that the dude was dating his 1st cousin... And I haven't been to Tuscaloosa since... That is a true story...

My two boys used to play a game whenever we traveled through the state of Alabama. It was a competition to see which one counted more cars on blocks or houses on wheels. So far, I think houses on wheels leads by a considerable margin.

I can back the OP up, that's the guy on the left, the girl on the right is his 1st cousin. See, he's telling the truth about Alabama.

Only good thing that comes out of Bammer is I-59. Unfortunately there are not checkpoints, though, to keep the undesirables out.

Will need to see a pic of her to determine if the trade off for the associated stigma was worth it.
