Nearly 30 years ago in 1984. I wouldn't know if I wasn't looking up stuff on his contract.

Thanks I don't know why that stuck in my memory but had never made the connection before. If we see a change then that sounds much more plausible and what little I know of the TCU program is fairly impressive.

Don't see the Patterson thing happening he makes 3 mil. We have to pay him 4 or 5 doubt he's on the short list

Titans Win! Excuse me........that is at the Hart(pun intended) of the entire issue. How much is the AD ready to commit if Dooley fails. If we know that we will have a much better idea of who is on the list of possibilities.

Patterson info is a diversion IMO....much like Butch Davis was during the Kiffin hire.

Don't pay attention to what left hand is doing....what's going on in the right hand?

Let not your hearts be troubled my friends.

Any coach would, even Gruden, or am I out on a limb on that one too.

All depends on the coach imo. Our current one has had more bad hires than good imo. Fulmer's choices pretty much cost him his job , but he did have some good ones at times. Gruden would have a great staff imo. Not sure about Patterson. I don't know enough about him to really have an opinion. 8 eleven win seasons in a weak conference. Still a better name than Smart.

I'm still taking everything with a grain of salt. It's still Gruden

everyone else.

I hope so. I would be upset if we paid G Patterson 4 Million to come here but not 5 for Gruden. Patterson was a coach that I wanted here after Kiffin disaster but everyday I read this board about Gruden and I hope he is the guy.

Could be......and I for sure do not see UT signing Patterson at 5 mil.

Not a chance. You only pay that kind of money to somebody with a big ring. That is Saban money, and Gary Patterson is no Saban.

Has nothing to do with it. He would want 4 mil or better and that's gonna happen..I'm with boro on this it's just a decoy at best even it's not Gruden

I misunderstood you. I was thinking you meant we had to pay TCU to get him. That he had a 4 or 5 million dollar buyout. My bad. Long day.

You know 'boro, the really interesting story behind all this is just how much money is UT willing to fork over, given the history and contracts that championship coaches now demand. Regardless of my opinion of Gruden or Dooley or anyone else.

If, hypothetically speaking, Dooley suddenly turned the team into a terror on the field his contract is up soon and he would demand championship money.

Patterson would be on the second tier list....quality alternatives after the homerun hires turn you down.

Solid guy, but no homerun.

The homerun hire pays for himself overnight in attendance, concessions, and season ticket sales.

Somebody ran the rough numbers earlier in this thread based on our declining attendance numbers. The financial impact was staggering.

Paying the splash hire makes perfect financial sense.

As a matter of fact, as much as the rest of the athletic programs rely on football revenue, its financial success is imperative.
