How so? I make no apology for wanting him gone. I believe that to be best for the health of the program. however I have always said that he has done a good job of managing the program. Aside from our performance on the field, we are light years ahead of where we were when he arrived. He's good at the details, not the big picture.

I like Dooley. He's bright, articulate, and by all accounts a good man. He's a poor football coach.

Because of that progress toward a more healthy program, I think only a splash hire outweighs the possible setbacks. I fail.to see the inconsistency.

Earlier you were saying that we had already put out feelers, and that Gruden WOULD BE the next UT HC.

Remember your sources?

That might be a legitimate point...but I haven't heard anyone complaining about coaching salaries in Bama's circles.

Pretty sure Gruden would know he doesn't have a blank check in that regard...but it really is like any other expenditure in life. You do pretty much get what you pay for. Just look at Dooley and where his salary falls among SEC coaches. Why should our fanbase EXPECT a coach whose salary is at the bottom of the SEC scale, to beat coaches making twice what he does.

Go budget shopping for a coach, chances are high, you're going to get a budget-level product.

So we need to give Dools a raise? :eek:k:

Those points have been discussed ad nauseum. If he wanted an NFL job he could have one right now. Head coaching at college wouldn't be the transition people make it out to be. He has college experience so he knows the game and recruiting plus you hire assistants who hit the recruiting trail and have that experience. The HC acts in a closer role. Don't you think Gruden would be a hell of a closer?

Yes, the one big advantage to Gruden in my mind, and one certainly not to be discounted, would be his recruiting abilities. For right now, everything boils down to tomorrow night, and the entire situation is going to be fun to watch. I hope. Have a great day people. I have spent way too much time on here and have a stack of work to complete today.:good!:

has gruden announced a timetable for a decision yet about coaching next year somewhere?

No. All that he has ever said publicly is that he would like to get back into coaching at the right time, and for the right opportunity. He has also expressed a desire to do so at the college level.

We all want what is best for the program, we just disagree on how to get there. You have a good day, too.

I'd like for you to produce a post where I emphatically stated that Gruden WOULD without a doubt would he coaching here next year....at least one the wasnt obviously tongue-in-cheek. Please do that.

I stand by the feelers comment, and I'm not the only one that has said so.

I believe there is an oportunity to hire Gruden. I have been told there is interest on both sides in making that happen.

I love the argument by some here, that Gruden wouldn't be a good college coach because he never coached college.

That's like saying a 5 star restaraunt chef would have difficulty cooking for a family at home.

It's laughable. The recurits and staff that Gruden would get would be insane.

If you're confused by it, I'm certain he could explain it AGAIN.
