This is how it started with Fulmer, remember? The mistake back then was waiting too long to pull the trigger. I can understand why that happened. Dooley does not have the record, the support, or the "equity" that Fulmer had. His leash is much, much shorter.

I think Dooley is coaching for his job in October. Anything less than 2-2, and it's a coin flip if Dooley is retained.

I think he knows that, and the staff knows that, or they at least suspect it. That said, we'll find out tomorrow night, and against Bama and USCe, if this staff has what it takes to win in the SEC.

Could someone lend me a hand? I typically won't pose a question that's likely already been answered in a thread, however this thread is going on 600 pages now. My coworker has stated that Gruden has a pretty sweet job with ESPN and would never leave to come here. Is this all fan speculation or has there actually been some behind the scenes talk?

I would also like to add that in either case I'm all for a coaching change and Mr. Gruden would be Tennessee's Nick Saban. Thanks and good morning fellow Vol fans.

Several here have received similar info from people in or near the program that state there has been informal contact through intermediaries, and that both sides are listening.

Gruden has publicly stated that he would get back into coaching for the right opportunity, and would like it to be at the college level.

There is a good bit of smoke, coming now from people who have previously been naysayers, to support a growing possibility.

Sweet, the summary is much appreciated. I guess I'm officially a grudenite then if there is some base to these claims. Now, where is the punch bowl of Grudenaid kept around here?
