Jones vows to return toughness to Tennessee

It has been tough for Jones to get this team to be more physical. They seem to want to be soft on a lot of plays and were soft the entire Missouri game. Our line needs to push DL's off the line and they haven't done that consistently with Missouri being the worse game they have played this season.

"Full-padded practice, live practices and we're going to be a tough football team,” Jones said of the plan for this week as the Vols begin preparation for No. 7 Auburn. “I know this: those individuals understand that they didn't perform well and I think you've got to give your opponent credit as well.”

i wish CBJ good luck on this,it was sorely missed the last game

"Tennessee Tough" - yet another CBJ cliche.....

I would like to hear less cliches and see more hard-nosed football.

I'll be honest, I don't pay too much attention to all the details of the OL but I heard on a talk show that the OL isn't in a 3-point stance that often in this O. And that's the reason for not getting a big push on running plays.

I freaking loved Al Wilson. If you want to watch ruthless aggression and balls to the wall defense, go back and watch the mid to late 90's teams. Al Wilson, Raynoch Thompson, etc

Yup.

You dont have to go that far back tho. See 05...or even 08. Two of the better defenses we've had here.

and Eric Westmoreland. All NFL players. Great LB core.

You can list a lot of things wrong with the play of this team last Saturday night on both sides of the ball but ultimately it comes down to scoring some dang points!!! I don't really care about the rest of it as long as when the clock says double zeros the Vols have a bigger number on the board than who they are playing. 13 combined in last two games? Really? Until they learn how to score the rest is just coach speak and message board drivel.

This is exactly what this team is missing, an Al Wilson type of personality. You need that sort of guy...or 2 or 3 of them, if you are lucky...who will put the entire team on his shoulders and say, "no effing way we are going to lose today". When they get a few of these guys on the roster, the level of performance and production by the entire defense will change.

And remarkably, it will feel like it happened overnight...that's what great leadership does.

If O line plays the same in the first half as they did against Mizzou put in Crowder, Marcus Jackson and Weisman. These guys all play to the Whistle. James Stone was 3 yds back into Dobbs the whole game. Man up line! and trust me I Hope they do. And in before some dumb a$$ (you know who you are) says, "say it to their face." Someone get me a coaches jersey and into a practice and I'll do just that.

I think "say it ti their face" is an appropriate response to the people who get on here mad and spewing stupid everywhere. Throwing personal attacks at our players or saying they play like bee-othches. Nothing wrong with saying you want to see someone play better.

How the hell, in your first year, with by far the biggest job you have ever had, let it slip away mid season anyway? It's like saying, "I've been drawing a check but not doing my job the last few weeks but now I'm going to go back to work and start earning it".

Yeah, it sounds alot like the "these last games are a whole new season" or the "now I'm going to start going to the defensive meetings and fix the defense" Dooley tried to sell near the end of last year.

I want to like Coach Jones and I know he isn't the incompetent fool Dooley was. But I hate that we're still seeing alot of the same things.
