Lets take a look at what Heupel has done compared to other coaches that where 1st time SEC coaches. Not saying Heupel is going turn out like the coach that got his 1st SEC job at LSU, but imagine if LSU would have fired that coach after his 3rd year? They may have 1 less national title than what they have at this point. It’s actually pretty impressive what Heupel has done considering what he took over. LSU and UT program were at very different ends of the spectrum, but these 2 coaches seem like they very similar for 1st time SEC coaches.

I think everyone needs to chill and see what we have in year 5 and beyond.

Couple frustrating loses but he is a good coach that’s running the program the right way. We got spoiled after last year but we lost a ton of talent to the NFL so most expected this year to be a little bit of a step back but now that it has happened we are upset. We just don’t have the qb or OL that we had last year to cover up some of the problems.

He will be here at least 5 years. The next two will determine if it's longer. If Nico plays up to his potential in 2025, Josh ain't going anywhere.

Agree 2025 will show us what we really got as a coach. If we don’t win the East that year he isn’t the one.

UT is betting on the hurry up concept as much as Heupel as a coach. CJH is elite when it comes to running this type of offense, but you better have the right QB and receivers that don’t drop passes.

The most penalized team in the SEC is worrisome but that is partly due to the offense. Still, some more on field discipline wouldn’t be a bad thing for a top level coach to expect from his players. And some respect from the refs would be something that top coaches should get as well. Holding calls have wrecked far more UT drives than opponents’ drives.

Without a decent OL, Nico better have the scrambling ability of Dobbs. 7-5 or worse next year will not go over well. You may preach patience all you want, but that’s not how this game works. And fans don’t hire or fire coaches. Results matter, how the team plays, even in losses matter. If year 2 was the high point out of 5 - all eyes would be on Danny White. It’s a high pressure environment and the pay scale reflects that.

I'll take this over what we have had the past decade anyway. We may have some losses that I'd like back, but I no longer go in "expecting" a loss to any team. During Dooley, Butch, Pruitt years, I couldn't say that. With Heup, I fully believe we will be in every game we play. Which is why it stings and hurts so much when we aren't.

Glad you said 2025, I just hope the rest of the fanbase realizes 2024 is most likely a repeat of this year. Too many on here seem to think Nico is gonna come in and take us to the promise land immediately, but next year’s o-line may tell a different story.

NIL & this Board has built Nico up so much, he will never satisfy this board. He will be a failure in their minds and whoever is the backup, they will shout he's bound to do better than what Nico's doing. There's a bunch on here along with the trolls will keep us in the rinse & repeat mode. It has got worse in the age > year 2000 when everyone has a voice on-line threads even the dumb and un-knowledgeable football minds, come out with their on-line pitch forks.. A lot of people that cant even name the players when they see their numbers but know exactly what to do every week.

90% of the fans who are raving mad with frustration now, are only frustrated because they elevated their own expectations for this team. It happens every year, and it's not based on evidence that the team is better than expected. It's purely wanting it to be so; it's fantasizing about how good it would feel to pummel Bama in Tuscaloosa, so that you get your dopamine pumping just in anticipation of your fantasy.

The internet porn industry and the internet shopping industry have been working this predictable behavioral process for decades now. When I posted about it back during early summer camp reports, the pushback was "Yeah, but feeling good about the team and the coming season is what I enjoy about football."

Fair enough. But now is when you pay that piper. Each fan has to decide: was it worth it to enjoy the fantasy of expectations and suffer the crash of reality from November to July, or is it better to enjoy each day's reality and absorb the disappointments like an adult? Farmers know the answer--but not many farmers left.

"So who moved my cheese?!!"

We moved our own cheese.

Looking at scheduling the next two years under a new quest for a Conference Championship is another factor that CJH and staff faces.

IOW comparing a 2000 year old coach's stats to one in 2020 is like comparing Apples to Oranges. Cannot really go with that considering an Alabama Team without Saban and Smart and a GA team without Smart.

What's More, the SEC's Official bias, the Coaching Carousel we faced for 10+years and the SEC Bias towards other teams. All these left us in a deep hole and at least Heupel has moved us out of the Cellar in the SEC.

Nil plays a factor as well.

Heupel has moved us up and is building a foundation with recruiting and culture. It will take time, last year's team was lightening striking and I believe he will continue to climb. The next 4 years will show if he will cut it or not. It happens when he makes the necessary adjustments in Coaching staff and recruiting.

I think he will but time will tell. Let's quit chasing shinny objects and give him the chance he needs to get over this hump.

What's more we were on the backside of bad calls in the Music City Bowl after losing 33+ Players. The sign stealing. Alabama dominance with the pollsters all are factors until the SEC let's go. It does not matter but it does. This team is on the short end of the stick.

Even if we are better next year if Heup doesn’t figure out the road woes it’s gonna be bad
At Oklahoma
At arkansas
At Georgia
Bama at home
Florida at home
Even though theyre at home we haven’t fared well with them over the years so 5 losses could be pretty easy to do especially if we don’t click well early given we have NC state neutral

I wouldn't worry too much about the Oline for next year. Our Senior laden line just got spanked.. What we need is some mean with this team and Heupel needs some mean inserted in his finesse offensive approach. Good teams just play you straight up and see if you can move them off the ball.

100% agreed. This team and its leadership are missing a key ingredient. They don't get pissed off when they get punched in the mouth. It pisses me off to watch them just take it and not fight back. All that yapping and clappin is just hot air.

He’s 25-11 and 13-9 in the SEC that’s pretty dang good much better than the previous coaches first three years.

Milton getting in people's face down by 3 scores. What is the point of that? Do it before you get down 3 scores.. He's the perfect example of a timid player.. Guy looks like Tarzan plays like Jane sometimes.

Maybe oversimplifying things but stack the "big wins" vs the "bad losses" to measure progress. Curious to see what folks think, it's highly subjective obviously.
