on the radio this afternoon, which is that we should not expect Stokes to be the savior right away and he referenced the Rivals top 50 players the last 3 years, specifically the #11 ranked players from those classes, which Stokes is this year. I have attached the links below. I am very excited that we got him, but wouldn't be surprised if it takes him at least a year to have a real impact.

2011 - Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com Ranking - Rivals150 for the class of 2011

2010 - Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com Ranking - Rivals150 for class of 2010

2009 - Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com Ranking - Rivals150 for class of 2009

As good as Stokes may be, he should still be in high school right now. He is still 17 years old. It is very unrealistic to see dividends this season. Start looking next season.

Those dividends may be in the form of other top-flight recruits too.

I know he is young. And hasn't played in a while. But he can still start for this team.

His rank in the Rivals top 150 will have no effect on what he does when he gets on campus, nor will being ranked #11 be any barometer of success/failure relative to other players ranked at that spot in years past. Specifically in Stokes' case, because his situation is so unlike the situations of any of those other players.

Josh Ward is probably right to say he won't be the savior of the program from the time he steps on the floor, but it won't be because of the reasons he's giving.

He's only 17 with is basically his senior of high school, but it will be in the sec. He'll play and prob start after 3-4 games. I'll be happy if he score 8-10 pts and grabs some boards. Basically, take Halls minutes.

I may have paraphrased the savior part, but that was his general point. I agree that the #11 part is random, but if you look at the top 50 it is hit or miss and it may take some time for him to develop.

Good gracious, any talented kid would make this team look better no matter if they are 17 years old.

He's relentless in his work ethic but he hasn't played a legit basketball game in a while. He's going to have to adjust.

He'll push the guys for minutes who are playing down low right now. If they don't step up their games, he'll take more of their minutes. That is what I'm looking forward to seeing this year; his maturation over the second half of the season and, as importantly, how he helps the team improve with his obvious talent and work ethic.

You lost me at "Josh Ward made a good point."

It's like him and West are having a stupid contest every day while I drive around and work, and they always end up being co-champions. The fact that they routinely let Clay Travis come on their show proves that they really don't get it.:banghead2:

He's better than anyone on the roster right now

How do you know this? Lets give this guy a chance. Just because he's '#11' on rivals doesn't really mean anything. If we go ahead and anoint him as the savior of this team and program, there's really no way he can live up to expectations. Its just setting him up for failure. I'm as excited as anyone that we've got him but lets settle down and let the kid just play some ball instead of feeling like he has to save this team. If he averages 9 points and 6 rebounds a game i'd consider that a big success for a kid thats 17, should still be in high school and hasn't played competitive ball since this past summer!

09- Lance Stephenson played one year in college and is now in the NBA.

10- Will Barton averaged 12.3 ppg last year and right at 20 this year.

11 -Josiah Turner has only played 12-13 games on one of the most talented teams in the country so he doesn't have to be an impact player. That said he has been very solid in limited action (20 mpg)

Had any of those three players came to Tennessee they would be stars from day one.

To put things in perpective though for the 2012 class Arizona has commitments from (3) 5 star and (1) 4 star and their already loaded with 4 and 5 star players.
