Has led the team in steals the past 2 years 47 in ' 08 ,, 45 so far in '09 season

Is 2nd in assists with 86

2nd in Rebounds

Is tied for 2nd with melvin goins in Assists/ turnover ratio

Tied for 2nd in blocks shot during '08 season

Will be one of the last Vols to play with the same level of intensity JuJaun Smith played with on the defensive end

Will be missed next year

Weezy bought the headband. JP bought Salute the General Pose to thompson boling

The salute is embarrassing and classless - and even more embarrassing when he does it while the team in bounds the ball really fast after his made basket and sprints up the court for an easy two points because he's too busy showing off.

Nothing upsets me more than to see him do that salute while the ball is going the other way for an easy two. Or to watch him make an awful pass and to stand there and stare at his teammate while someone goes the other way for a dunk.

Like somebody said earlier, if only he had learned to shoot in his lifetime. I know he had a great day on Saturday, but I will be glad when his salute, and stupid play is gone from the hill. I have never been a fan of his antics.

Hater's gonna hate....

JP is a huge part of our team and will be missed. I agree though, all his celebrations/showboating are pretty stupid/unnecessary.

The JP haters like to focus on what he can't do as opposed to what he can do...like the OP stated he does a lot of things that help us win ball games.

You might hate him now but you will miss him when he is gone.

Please stop hating on our players, JP is a great Vol and gives it all he's got on a nightly basis, I love the athletic plays he makes and of course I wish he shot the ball better, but he is loyal to our team, he plays hard, and he is fun to watch, go JP, go VOLS!!

The only reason I "hated" (which I don't even consider it hate) on JP is because the OP acted like his salute was a positive thing or somehow cool and compared it to Chism's headband.

Chism's headband will always be is legendary - JP's bad attitude and antics like his salute are an embarrassment and not what he should want to be remembered for.

I think he has gotten better with that the last couple of games, after he was called out on it. I think we will miss his playing style when he's gone.

It's not like JP is the only person on this team that can't shoot. S. Pearl couldn't beat the Obama girls in a free throw shooting contest. JP is very valuable to the team and will be missed dearly on both defense and offense

I love JP. I watched him at the station in memphis. My favorite play ever was his 360 dunk on ridgeway (it basically started a riot). I'm just saying that he has so much potential; if he would have just locked himself in a gym and worked on his shot he would be getting paid next year. It's a waste of talent when a player simply relies on his athletic ability and does not develop the others crucial areas.

Nothing gets me, or half of the student section I stand around pumped up quite like the salute. I actually get disappointed when he doesn't do it. Im gonna miss it JP

Ya I mean this is such a weird thing when his detractors bring up the salute like it somehow has anything at all to do with basketball. Certain players display emotion or rely on demonstration to encourage themselves to 'get into the game' or whathaveyou. It's fine if you have a preference for someone acting stoic or barry sanders-y, but it has zero relevance when discussing a player's true merit, and so if someone calls it a 'plus' its simply a matter of taste, not a truly debatable point.

And as to the first reply: JP is one of our best shooters, so try the old hohenvol method of just sticking to "i hate the guy because i hate him!".

You people gettin on JP is small and stupid!! Are some of you just jealous or do you not really understand what he does for this team. STFU and quit being useless to this team when they need support for the big push!

GO VOLS!!!!!!!!!!!

FYP

JP haters send me up the wall. He's a baller, but sometimes he makes mistakes. His play is exciting and when he plays at the apex of his game, he can take the game over and will the team to victory.

I have said all year Vol fans are going to miss him later. He has so many intangibles. no he is not the calibur of his cousin Tayshaun but trust me all 11 teams in the SEC would have been happy to have him the last 3 years including kentucky.

uh, no. Not even close.

But I agree with the rest of your post. I love JP and his ability to break down defenses. Most people hate him because of the other stuff he does on the court (non-game related) but I like players who show emotion and who actually want to be there.
