Is question was just asked on the prerace show on FX. Will Jr leave DEI and find another ride? DW thinks he will! What your thoughts and ideas?

This whole Jr/DEI soap opera is starting to get old.

With the exception of Jr's runs up until the crew switch, DEI has always been a middle of the pack team.

Anybody remember Steve park? The #8 team has always been the only constant in the whole organization. Waltrip only shows his face in the top 10 when they visit the restrictor plate trtacks.

I think that the bad finishes at the superspeedways this year, are only bad fortune. They have proven setup's there, everywhere else they are showing how mediocre they've always been.

I also posted this in the DEI thread:

The original plan was always jr in the 8, waltrip in the 15, and Truex in the 1 part time in 05 and full time in 06.

Waltrip was told at the start of the year that if he did not make the chase, he would be out of a job. That was probably just motivational talk and DEI can't really be serious about that because: 1- If Waltrip goes, NAPA goes with him and 2- The only other driver on a development contract with DEI is Shane Hmiel, who would eventually replace Waltrip in '07 or '08. Putting Shane into an unsponsored 15 car was not very likely for '06, even before his drug suspension.

Now with Shane gone, Waltrip is almost assured the 15 for at least one more year. Now the 'question' is whether jr will remain at DEI.

Where would he go? There's no way Chevy will let him out of their grasp, so he'll have to end up with a Chevy team. Hendrick has a full stable with several drivers in development.

Gibbs has 3 cars, don't see Bobby or Tony leaving, but renumbering the 11 to an 8 is a possibility, the only catch is Bud will come with jr, and Gibbs would have to break a multi-year deal with FedEx and it's not likely a so-sponsorship (like on the 18 car) could be brokered, too many jokes about the FedEx driver drinking Bud. It would be a PR nightmare.

RCR could replace Harvick and renumber the car 3 from 29. But RCR is on the decline, plus this would displace long time sponsor Goodwrench. It's doubtful he would replace Blaney and the 07 (sponsor conflict with Jack Daniels) or Burton and the 31 (The Nextel deal has Cingular unfairly locked onto the 31 as the only car they can sponsor).

That leaves the "satellite" teams, the 01/10 MBV2 whatevermacallit, which is actually just minor league Hendrick teams, and Cal Wells #32 Tide Chevy (satellite of RCR). Very doubtful he'll end up at any of these teams..... unless he just wants out of DEI so bad that he's willing to take that risk.

This could be interesting.

Interesting. Who'll be the first to go Mikey or Jr? :shakehead:

I always thought it would be Mikey, but now I'm thinking differently. If Jr. ended up at Hendrick he would have a ring in no time. Don't get me wrong DEI is a good company but they lost their life line a few years back.

I beg to differ. Check out DW and Hammonds hand next race. Yes they get the big ol trophy but they also get the championship jacket and ring.

Jr. driving for Hendrick.

:dlol: :disappointed: Don't even think that man!

If Jr. does leave DEI, which I doubt because that'd be like leaving everything his Daddy left him with, he will and race for RCR where his Dad races and will be #3 Budweiser car.

But as far as leaving DEI, I don't think it will happen within the next couple of years but in the future it could possibly happen

Jr will stay. It doesn't make much sense for him to leave anyway. I know that he has a new crew etc, but part of the problem this year is he doesn't have his head in it. Something is distracting him and wouldn't doubt it one bit if it was a woman..

NASCAR as I have always known it is slowly fading. The new "entity" is a team thing that overemphasizes the sponsors and teams as opposed to good, hard, butt-kicking racing by individual drivers and their crews.

:daddy: if dale jr. left DEI, his father would roll over in his grave. dale SR. died blocking the field, so his son or mikey could win. :drive2:

Jr just put it into the wall. I'd say this year is rapidly going down the tubes.

Jr. had a few more disses for DEI today after his crash. I don't think he'll leave DEI anytime soon, but I can say I think one more bad race and he's history for the Chase. :)

Another good day for Jeff Gordon, just like the the one's he's had in the last couple of weeks and he'll not make it either.....Daytona is coming up next weekend and he'll be on his game for that and then he'll get it going....I'm not too worried about it right now...All it is, is a simple case of Jr. may not wanna drive for DEI anymore.....He's been quoted as wanting to run the 3 car before he retires and he may be leaving after 2007 to do that.
