An F1 guy switching to NASCAR . . . that's pretty big news.

Apparently Chip couldn't convince Wheldon to switch over to NASCAR. JPM isn't a bad second choice from what I understand either.

JPM's resume. Pretty impressive.

--F3000 Champ, setting a record for most points scored in a season
--CART champion in his rookie year (beating the likes of Michael Andretti, Paul Tracy, Dario Franchitti, Tony Kanaan, and Jimmy Vasser)
--Won the Indy 500 in his only try
--Youngest champion in CART history
--10 CART wins, 14 poles in two seasons
--7 F1 wins
--13 F1 poles
--Finishes of 6th, 3rd, 3rd, 5th, and 4th in the F1 points standings
--Won the Monaco grand prix

I was going to say --- Montoya has a much more impressive resume than Wheldon (of course he's been at it longer).

Montoya dominated CART then jumped to F1. He's had the most success of any that have made that leap (being on great F1 teams doesn't hurt).

He was in CART when they ran ovals so going in circles shouldn't be a problem for him.

It certainly wasn't a problem @ Indy. Good lord he embarrased the whole field that year (I think it was 00 or 01).

Yep - I was there. Ganassi was living large in those days.

He certainly appears to have the ability to adapt. I don't watch much F1 racing, but from what I understand from reading other boards, he wasn't well-liked in F1 land because he was too aggressive and actually raced... that should transfer well to cars with fenders and plenty of give.

Another wanta-be. How much more torture do we have to endure. Can he talk faster than Darrel Waltrip??
