"I told him 'son, you have no idea how good you could really be.' He had all the ability in the world it just would be about how willing he would be to work for it. He was used to being the alpha dog, one of the best players on the field, and he wasn't always necessarily receptive to hard coaching. I knew when he got to a D1 school they would not sugar coat anything, so I told him I was going to coach him hard to get him ready.
"This year, he was one of the most coachable players I had this year. He grew as a person, he grew in his technique. He had an amazing spring and just hasn't looked back. I think it all started with him embracing being coached hard and learning how to play defensive back at the next level."
What type of player will the Golden Eagles be adding to the nasty bunch?
"Michael is the prototype cornerback that everyone is looking for nowadays," he said.
"He can run, he's athletic, he is twitchy in and out of breaks, and those are the God given abilities he has. We've worked on all that to hone it. Aside from all that, he is an excellent press man corner. In this world of RPO's and spread offenses, where you can't hardly put a hand on a defender, he still excels in press man. When you can line up and play press man coverage play in and play out, there is always going to be a spot for you. I could count on Caraway Jr. to take away the other team's number one receiver and never bat an eye at that.
"He has good ball skills, and one of the most underrated characteristics of his game is that he is very physical. He is an all around football player, and exactly what you want in a corner. We played man to man all the time and we had the utmost confidence in all of our DB's, and he is definitely the bell cow in covering the other team's number one."
