While most prospects are still relatively close to Knoxville, Tenn., at least two will have to make a long trip to check out the Vols: four-star defensive end Zachary Carter from Hillsborough High School (Tampa, Fla.) and four-star offensive tackle Grayson reed from Cypress Creek High School (Houston, Texas).

The Vols will also try to test the dedication that four-star safety Xavier McKinney from Roswell (Ga.) High School has to Alabama. He committed to the Crimson Tide in September but that was before Kirby Smart left the Tide to become the head coach at Georgia.

Several states, outside of Tennessee, will be represented on Saturday. Four-star receiver Trey Blount from Pace Academy (Powder Springs, Ga.), four-star receiver/safety Hamsah Nasirildeen from Concord (N.C.) High School, four-star cornerback Amir Riep from Colerain High School (Cincinnati, Ohio), four-star tight end Logan Rudolph from Northwestern High School (Rock Hill, S.C.), four-star defensive end Jordan Williams from Frank W. Cox (Virginia Beach, VA) and four-star offensive tackle Jedrick Wills from Lafayette High School (Lexington, Ky.) are all expected to attend.

The Vols will host two four-star prospects from Bishop Sullivan Catholic (Virginia Beach, Va.): defensive tackle Breyon Gaddy and linebacker Teradja Mitchell. Gaddy is a consensus four-star prospect. Mitchell has been rated a four-star prospect by 247Sports.

Here are some other notable visitors scheduled to be on campus this weekend:

Three-star linebacker Michael Allen – Lanier High School (Buford, Ga.)

Three-star athlete Marquez Bembry – Mount Vernon Presbyterian High School (Atlanta, Ga.)

Running back Trey Coleman – West Monroe (La.) High School – Rated three-star prospect by 247Sports.

Four-star offensive tackle Ryan johnson – St. Paul’s Episcopal (Mobile, Ala.)

Three-star defensive end Alex King – William Mason High School (Mason, Ohio)

Defensive tackle Brant Lawless – Christian (Nashville, Tenn.) High School – Rated four-star prospect by 247Sports

Three-star defensive tackle Emmanuel McNeil – Central Gwinnett (Lawrenceville, Ga.)

Three-star tight end Chase Rogers – St. Stanislaus (Bay Saint Louis, Miss)

Defensive tackle Rick Sandidge – Concord (N.C.) High School – Rated four-star prospect by 247Sports

Offensive tackle Jamaree Salyer – Pace Academy (Atlanta, Ga.) – Rated four-star prospect by 247Sports

Three-star defensive end Aaron sterling – Stephenson High School (Stone Mountain, Ga.)

Four-star offensive tackle Andrew Thomas – Pace Academy (Atlanta, Ga.)

Three-star running back Damon Williams – Gadsden (Ala.) City High School

Three-star running back Chandler Wooten – North Cobb High School (Kennesaw, Ga.)

Running back Lyn-J Dixon – Taylor County High School (Butler, Ga.) – Rated four-star prospect by 247Sports.

Surprised there's not more discussion here. This is probably the most important thread that's been started in a while in the RF.

Hooker and VQ have two very different lists. It'll be interesting to see how accurate they end up being.

From Hooker's list I am most excited about FL DE Zachary Carter, KY OT Jedrick Wills, and GA OT Andrew Thomas. It's amusing that Thomas is mentioned in passing considering he may be a 5* by one or more of the services. Getting him, Trey Smith, and/or Jedrick Wills would be elite. Tony Gray out of GA is a target as well. I'm surprised he's not coming for Jr. Day.

I think VA DE/DT Jordan Williams is important also because of position need and because of geography. We really need some of the better VA d-linemen this cycle and he would be a great start (as would Eric Crosby who I figured would be in attendance as well -- I think Crosby is coming to the spring game though and announcing his commitment a few days later). Gaddy and Mitchell (an elite 2018 prospect) are important, as well. I'm wondering if Gaddy expects his brother in a package deal. I don't know anything about the brother except that he appears to be less sought after by the P5 schools.

The different names on Fingers' VQ list that stand out to me are OH TE Matt Dotson (I like him and the Cali TE the best -- I'm not too familiar with where the TN TE Bumphus would rank), Khalan Laborn, and Bailey Hockman. With UGA flipping Fromm from Bama, Hockman is suddenly an interesting possibility. GA has some excellent QBs this cycle. Of course, if getting any of 2017 QB turns away prized 2018 GA QB Trevor Lawrence than it'd be a Pyrrhic victory, IMO. Until TL commits, I'll temper my excitement regarding any 2017 QB possibility.

The recent news on Cam Akers decommitting from Bama is bigtime. If we were somehow able to land him and Ty Chandler than we'd be sitting well for Hurd/Kamara leaving early. I also would like us to take Hayden as APB/slot. Either way, getting Akers and/or Chandler would be elite. I am skeptical that Cordarrian Richardson is likely. I also think both Akers and Chandler are our two best opportunities at elite RB talent this cycle. I don't see Akers going to Ole Miss given Freeze's inability to feature a RB in his system. He probably wasn't fond of the loaded depth chart at Bama either.

I'm also curious about OH CB Amir Riep. We are in on some big-time talent in the secondary and I envision JaCoby Stevens and Deangelo Gibbs as our primary S prospects -- and I think the former is a strong possibility bc of Shoop and the latter is a near lock with family ties. This leaves CB. We have two instate CBs that are probably pretty good but do we go for even better talent to match the potential at safety? Both Gentry Bonds and TJ Carter appear SEC-worthy, yet there are other CBs who may be higher on the board (pure speculation on my part) such as Lamont Wade and perhaps Riep.

Besides Mitchell, I don't recognize the 2018 or 2019 prospects. I hope the list of prospects in those years expands significantly by the weekend.

2019 QB Xavier Malone will be visiting Clemson this week. Since he's from Knoxville I'm sure he will make up his visit to Tennessee soon.

Latrell Bumphus is being recruited as a DE so I believe he is a take with this being a bigger class than last year. I believe Gentry Bonds will be a take but Carter may get passed over unless we miss on a few guys or happen to have an open spot at the end.

Crosby was here two weeks ago for the instate JR day.

Based on what I know from following VN, here is a list of prospects by position (according to 247 composite rank - loosely):

QB - GA Bailey Hockman / FL N'Kosi Perry / CA Jack Sears / NC Hendon Hooker (or none and save for 2018 TL -- doubt we do that, however)
RB - MS Cam Akers / TN Ty Chandler / TN Cordarrian Richardson / TN Chase Hayden / FL Adarius Lemons / CAN Chuba Hubbard / OH Michael Warren / GA Trey Sermon / FL Michael Carter
WR - TN Tee Higgins / MI Donovan Peoples-Jones / FL James Robinson / FL Jerry Jeudy / VA Tahj Capehart / GA Trey Blount / TN Princeton Fant (I'm sure there are many more but these are the ones I'm familiar with that have expressed mutual interest)
TE - IL Jake Marwede / OH Matt Dotson / FL Kenmore Gamble / FL Tre McKitty / SC Will Register / CA Moses Robinson-Carr / TN LaTrell Bumphus (may be a DE)
OT - TN Trey Smith / GA Andrew Thomas / KY Jedrick Wills / AL Austin Troxell / FL Tadarrell Slaton / GA Tony Gray / TX Grayson Reed / MD Jordan McNair / LA Adrian Ealy / PA Joshua Lugg / FL Cordavien Suggs / WV Billy Ross / TN Obinna Eze / CA Jalen McKenzie
OG - CA Kanan Ray / GA Netori Johnson / FL Robert Hainsey
C - FL Cesar Ruiz (could always convert another linemen)

WDE - GA Robert Beal / MD Chase Young / GA Malik Herring / VA Luiji Vilain / VA Jordan Williams / GA Markaviest Bryant / OH Alex King / DC Tyree Johnson
SDE - FL Zachary Carter / VA Yetur Matos / OH James Hudson / TN Isiah Stokes / VA Elijah Conliffe
DT - VA Eric Crosby / VA Breyon Gaddy / TN Rutger Reitmaier / GA Emmanuel McNeil
ILB - FL Tyler Dunning / GA Tyler Taylor
OLB - NC Justin Foster (prob a ILB/DE in reality) / NC Hamsah Nasirildeen / GA Breon Dixon (UGA commit) / FL Santino Marchiol / TN Jacob Phillips / GA Chandler Wooten
CB - Deangelo Gibbs (I see as a S) / PA Lamont Wade / GA Jamyest Williams / GA William Poole III / MI Ambry Thomas / OH Amir Riep / GA AJ Terrell / TN Gentry Bonds / TN TJ Carter (I left a few off)
S - FL Xavier McKinney / TN Theo Jackson (TX Jeffrey Okudah and GA OSU commit Isaiah Pryor are still possibilities, albeit seemingly very unlikely)
ATH - JaCoby Stevens (I see as a S) / VA Devon Hunter / TN Maleik Gray (I see as an OLB/Star) / CA Greg Johnson / SC OrTre Smith / GA Deejay Dallas / SC Shi Smith / FL Juwan Burgess / MS Kam White

So here is my semi-realistic dream list for 2017:
QB (1) - N'Kosi Perry (as long as TL still commits for 2018; personally, I would hold out until he commits at the end of the summer)
RB (3) - Cam Akers, Ty Chandler, Chase Hayden (I would have Hubbard high up on my wish list as well)
WR (3) - Tee Higgins, Trey Blount, Princeton Fant (I wish I could include DPJ here)
TE (1) - Matt Dotson (the Cali TE would be my 1a)
OT (3) - Trey Smith, Andrew Thomas Jedrick Wills (this is probably a pipe dream lineup but the OT position is probably the strongest of all positions this year so signing 3 is worth it)
OG (1/2) - Kanan Ray, Tony Gray (doubt he's a tackle in the SEC)
*I recognize that OG appears to be a greater need than OT but the talent this year is at tackle and its easier to move a tackle to guard than vice versa

DE (3) - no idea but the following is on top of my wish list: Robert Beal, Malik Herring, Luiji Vilain, Zachary Carter, Yetur Matos
DT (3/4) - Eric Crosby, Breyon Gaddy, Rutger Reitmaier, Jordan Williams (believe he's DE or DT)
LB (2) - no idea but I think (hope) Maleik Gray is one of the two
CB (2/3) - Lamont Wade and one (if not both) of Gentry Bonds & TJ Carter
S (2/3) - Deangelo Gibbs, JaCoby Stevens (hard to not include Theo Jackson but no room)

That's 24 signees on the low side based on each position range. I don't care to talk about numbers and how we make 24 or 25 signees happen (I do not anticipate signing over 25 though).

I anticipate most of our signees this year being highly rated. I believe it is a good thing that we are not accepting the mediocre middling recruits early this year, even if it makes us uneasy to see zero commitments heading into March. As long as we have a really good 2016 season and as long as we have staff stability, a strong 2017 recruiting year is almost a certainty, based on instate talent and interest level from numerous top 250 composite players.

Yep. If we win 10+ games that will translate into a great class come signing day

You can add Maleik Gray and Princeton Fant to this weekends visit list.

Boom. Correct me if I'm wrong, but weren't both at the in-state jr day? If so, this speaks well.

As for everyone clamoring for a commit, the timing works out to have one soon now that the lawsuit storyline in the press is yesterday's news.

Yes, they were. Maybe Jacoby's schedule will allow for him to come, too.

Please, oh please, let this be a weekend of mass commits for us.

We have more commits for 2018 than we do 2017 currently lol

No Gray was playing in District Basketball Tourney that day and did not make it.Fant did visit.Since they are teammates ,it is interesting that both are travelling and attending together....both have expressed the desire to play together in College .Hope that comes to pass because Fant will be elite also .

That's right. We could use a double boom to get some positive pub rolling.
