There's a story on ESPN about three Gator juniors toying with leaving early for the draft. Have you guys got anyone possibly taking off? Seems to me that when these kids start talking about leaving, they rarely come back, even if the prognostication isn't that great for them. They get lured even further once the agents get their hands on them.

Here's an earnest quote from Meyer:

"If it comes back that they're first-rounders, you've got to do what you've got to do," Gators coach Urban Meyer said. "If it was my son, I would say, 'Go be a first-rounder.' If you're a fifth-rounder, a fourth-rounder, then that's where you have to sit down and evaluate."

Its the truth.

I would agree with some of the statement. 1st round I would go without a thought. 2nd round I would have to really think about it. 3rd or less I would even think about it I would come back to play a senoir year and try to get my draft stock up.

the only one that i've heard about is Justin Harrell...

and yeah, it's the truth, but man it sucks. you don't know how much i wished Jason Witten and Dante Stallworth, and Shaun Ellis and Alber Haynesworth had stayed....

but you need not look any further than Jason Allen as why they do leave....i hope he gets back to 100% so he can continue his career....

I bet Chris Leak is leaving. He may go in the 2nd or 3rd round.

Needs a coach to get that high arc from his throws and he may be a good pro QB.

Josh Portis will be running UF next year. IMO.

Yeah I think he was too much under the Zook system to be any use to Meyer. It's hard for a lot of players to drop what system they've learned and start over with a new one.

Oh yeah, Leak will leave, UM pulled off Portis' red shirt status. He will definitely run the offense next year.

You may be right about Portis. Leak is clearly not willing to take the hits necessary to run the option. During the FSU game there were a couple of plays where he immediately tossed it to the RB, even if the RB was covered and he wasn't. Obvious that he treated the ball like the proverbial hot potato in those cases.

He'd make a decent back-up for NFL teams with a passing game just in case first stringer gets hurt for a game or two. He's smart so he'd learn the systems in the NFL and he does have a good arm and makes good decisions when he has time.

But, he can't take the punishment even at the college level so I don't see him being an NFL starter. You never know, though. He might find the right situation and be a very good drop back passer.

There's an attitude of a lot of these guys that they can somehow prop up the stats without making the big plays and getting banged up or dirty. Leak is one of them. These are the pretty boys who clearly can't hack it in college and surely can't hack it in the pros. Unless Leak gets in there and makes the big plays, he's in for a rude awakening in the draft and being picked high.

I think Leak could be a good QB witht the right system and the right QB coach.

I dont think leak would get drafted even day 2 right now. He will definately stay another year, he has to.

Who are the other two gators that are on the fence in addition to Leak? I figured one was Chad Jackson, but who is the third? One of the LB's?

As far as UT is concerned, three guys (OT Arron Sears, OG Rob Smith, and DT Justin Harrell) are going to have their draft status analzyed and are considering leaving early. Personally I think each of these guys could use another year. Sears need a year to show he can stay healthy and be a dominant tackle. Smith is extremely tough but I don't know if he's "leave early" material. Harrell had a really good year, especially at the finish, and he's physically dominant enough to play in the NFL. If he returned, he'd be the headliner on UT's defense, but he'd get double teamed like Mahelona has all season.

I hope all three UT guys stay another year. I'd like to think that they have enough pride in their team that they don't want to go out with a 5-6 bowl-less season. It seems like with Cut and the new coaching changes there is reason for excitement again on the Hill. Maybe they'll want to come back and contend for an SEC title again.

I can't make up my mind whether I want Leak to stay at UF or not . . . He's a good passer, but I'm afraid we may miss him once the Gators get a more athletic and option-capable QB in the form of Portis, Tim Tebow, or ahem, Brent Schaeffer . . .

Stay, then we can watch the gator fans say that UM needs another year to get a decent QB to run his "system" :biggrin2:

He had a good game against Tiger High, his hands became boobs otherwise this season. He needs a great season of canning DE/LB'S, but more important, 10-15 yards down field jacking up a CB or safety.
