Yes, we lost. Losing sucks. The last 5 years have sucked.

People are on here criticizing coaching, and it makes me laugh. Sure, maybe there were some bad play CALLS, that statement I would agree with. Let's step back for a moment and look at what really happened yesterday, big picture.

Last year, we had a HUGE, HIGH POWERED OFFENSE, one of the best in Tennessee history, and only scored 3 more points than we did yesterday, in the swamp, with a qb that's never played before. You can even say 10 points, because Driskel threw us a TD. Either way, they scored a very similar amount of points in a MUCH MUCH less likely situation.

The defense looked MUCH improved. Other than Patton's 50 yard TD catch thingy, we didn't get big played to death like we did last year to let the game get out of hand. When the game got to an unreachable plateau, it was NOT the defense's fault. Shoot, they forced 3 or 4 turnovers, what more can you really ask for?

Our team was given time after time after time, reason after reason after reason to quit, and this team last year would have quit after Peterman's 1st pick. This defense stayed in the game the WHOLE game, and the offense, while very inept, was still in the game.

The point of this rant is that, we had EVERY LAST REASON to have a worse game than we did last year from a defensive standpoint, offensive standpoint, and mental standpoint, and we didn't (okay, maybe offensively lol). Anyone who wants to say that this year's team that played against Florida and last year's team that played against Florida are both poorly coached are wrong. Flat out wrong. The circumstances were FAR more difficult to overcome this year than last year, yet, I feel like I saw positives from yesterday, where, last year, I saw negative after negative.

Butch has us going in the right direction, but, Dooley couldn't get it done with 7 or 8 NFL caliber players last year, what makes ANYONE think we can do it with 2 or 3?

When I can sit on my couch and call every play the O is about to run because of the way we line up, there is an issue

We are too predictable on offense

Its going to hurt us the farther along we go. The film on us will be out there and defenses will see it.

Not a lot we can do with this QB play. Not saying you're wrong tho

There isn't much to look at. We run about 5 plays all game..

Running a sophisticated offense is very difficult if the players are unable to execute. Until we have mastered basic fundamental football running, a more difficult scheme would probably only worsen our ills. I agree with you that we are very predictable but right now we obviously can't pull that off without problems.

Our QB's are having a hard time understanding this offense. Worley kinda understands it, but he holds the ball and stares down his receivers. Then consistently over/under throws balls and cannot sustain a drive which wears out our defense. Peterman looked lost/scared. Not sure how the other freshman QB's are doing but since we haven't seen them take a snap yet in live action I would assume they are as lost too.

Not sure what we can do at this point. However, when we ran basic throws with Peterman he was fine with it. When we asked him to read the defense and find a receiver he was lost. I don't think he knows the routes very well.

I agree with your premise completely. However, I echo what the others have said. There's just not a lot we can do with QB play like this.

However, I do wish we'd run out of the I a little more... If the QB isn't going to keep it, at least give the RB a running start at the O-Line

Its my opinion, whether its in football or business, you look for the strengths of each individual and use it to your advantage

You adapt your plan to exploit these strengths. In time, you can train them up in your philosophy

Combine Lots of young WRs,Young qbs with no confidence, an O Line that believes their own hype and this is what you get

If we could have a descent day with the QB play (and recievers dropping passes) we actually score on the 3 times we came away with 0 points on turnovers in redzone. The defense played great yesterday.

I know it's still painful to watch. I've resorted to recording games and only watching the TN highlights. 10 minutes later I can move on.

Agree! We don't have the speed to run the spread. Run a different offense that will align with the talent you have.

I agree with you to an extent, my only concern is if the spread is where we are going, what about the Freshman/Sophomores who fit the spread? In rebuilding mode, shouldn't the focus be on coaching the players up to the system the coach believes in (and won championships with), even if the payoff is a year or two away?

Was just about to post something similar to this. However, if that IS the case, we need to be playing more of those players that "fit the system." We need to be getting the ball in Pig's hands more, get in it our speed guys' hands on the outside behind North and get in the open field. Additionally, I think it's time to pick one of the Frosh QB's and run with him this year. It's not like he can't redshirt next year if the other becomes better. It's not like a redshirt is only valid freshman year. we gotta pick someone and just take the lumps now.
