There was talk earlier this season that Heupel will garner some interest from NFL teams after the season. It occurs to me that if Alex Golesh thought there was a chance that Heupel were leaving (and he’d know better than most), he wouldn’t have taken the South Florida job because he’d be among the top candidates to succeed him at Tennessee. I know one could argue “a bird in hand,” but it’s not like Golesh wouldn’t get other offers if he waited it out.

I know I’m speculating some, but I think that’s more evidence that Heupel is in Knoxville to stay.

I don't think Golesh leaving will affect things much because this is Coach Heupel's offense and he runs it.

Sure. Our OC being hired by USF is a sign of the health of our program ATM. If Heupel had his eyes on a bigger job at some level, Golesh might have waited to either go with him or replace him.
Plus, you have to take what you are offered if it is a life-changing opportunity.

While I wish he would have stayed, the man obviously has talent and would be in the head coaching ranks if that he what he wanted.

I just hoped he was happy being an OC.

Heupel's like Tony V. He likes it here and see's what a future he can have here.

Now that we have a functional administration and elite AD, all of the organic advantages that UT has can shine through. That’s why both Heupel and Vitello are committed long term. And Barnes will retire at UT.

I'm thinking Golesh doesn't have enough experience to be offered a program like UT. That being said, I don't think Heupel is leaving.

Agree. Heupel says he’s very happy in Knoxville and having this red hot offensive coordinator leave is a good indication from the inside that the Tennessee HC job won’t be coming open anytime soon.

The pay gap is no longer a thing between the NFL and college. That's why you don't see successful college coaches leaving jobs and going there in the last 10-15 years or so. Pete Carroll ran there ahead of the NCAA coming for him when he left.

Why would anyone discuss Heupel leaving when he has put up one of the greatest turnarounds in NCAA history? BVS is durable guys. Get your shots!!!!!

I mentioned it because Tony Romo brought it up on an NFL broadcast a few weeks ago that some NFL teams will be looking at Heupel after the season. It was discussed on this board. I agree that he’s not going anywhere.

I am not convinced of the NFL interest in Heupel just yet because they still consider his offense unorthodox.

Hash marks are closer in the NFL so the spacing may not be as effective. The fast pace wouldn't be as effective either with the roster size being limited to 53 players.

NFL teams seem to be more risk averse and most all the hires last year had extensive NFL experience plus some teams still think hiring defensive minded coaches is a good idea.

There were several times in interviews this year that you could see Heupel has never experienced the level of energy anywhere else, including Oklahoma!!! The joy and surprise in his face was great to see!!! As long as we pay him and he keeps progressing, he will be here!!!

We’d be looking at Danny White getting a few dozen rejections before Golesh gets asked.

In the event CJH jumped to the NFL, and we wanted to higher Golesh, there is nothing stopping us from offering and him accepting the job.
