I noticed in the Pittsburgh papers today that Jamie Dixon said he wanted to play a home game every year in the Consol Center, but was having a tough time finding opponents. My thought? Why not set up a long term home and home series between UT and Pitt? That gives each team a top notch home game every other year and a marquee road games in the others. I'm a big believer that programs who scratch their way into the upper echelon of college hoops, like Tennessee and Pittsburgh have, should schedule each other instead of waiting for the blueblood outfits to deign to play them.

Not a bad idea, especially with UK, Duke, MSU and Kansas inking their new doubleheader season kickoff games for the next 3 years with ESPN. Both programs have earned admittance into the ball, even they were not invited.

I'm all for playing regular season games that help to better prepare us for the postseason.

I thinks it's a great idea. If the Pitts and Tennessees of the world are waiting for Duke or UNC to call begging for a game, it's going to be a long wait.

I think it could work. Pitt is a program like us. Becoming elite, but still not a blueblood. I think that would be pretty cool.

Not only that it would guarantee another nationally televised game for UT, which would be good for PR and more importantly recruiting. It could easily develop into a pretty darn good rivalry IMO

I would be down for it. As long as Dixon is roaming the sidelines it will be a quality matchup each season.

one of your better ideas hat.

We have it going with Memphis, which is fun but that is more of a geographic thing.

Pitt, tOSU, Syracuse, Texas, or even UConn because of the women's rivalry factor would all make for great series.

Ohio State would be the top on my list out of utter disdain for the state, the school, and the snitching. Plus, that would be a drivable trip for fans of both schools.

Good idea Hat, both teams would enjoy the recognition. Pitt has been relevant in hoops for quite a while yet you do not hear them mentioned as often as they deserve...as others have said... would garner a little early season attention.

???? You play UConn because of they are one of the top programs of the last decade and a TV game, not because of women's basketball.

No one outside of Storrs or Knoxville gives a flying flip about women's basketball.

You do realize BP snitched first, right? It's called karma.

Opening up a home and home with Pittsburgh would serve both well. UT would be the greater beneficiary of the two, though.

i agree with the OP as well. i only watched on tv, but the atmosphere seemed to be electric at TBA for the Kansas game last year. would be nice to have that type game at least every other year.

I wish we would get back to playing Wisconsin...there was something pretty cool about playing them...Playing Pitt every year is a great idea! We should also look at bringing in a Maryland or GaTech from the ACC...
