I don't think it was a secret and at this point the NCAA is circling the drain investigating NIL infractions. That genie is out of the bottle.
I figure in a few years the SEC will pull in a few more schools and form a conference away from the NCAA and basically be a semi pro league but still tied to colleges some how.

After a brief reading of NILs on the NCAA website, my understanding of how a university gets in trouble with NILs is dependent on if they used NILs as an incentive to get a recruit to enroll at their university. Given that Oregon has very strong ties with Nike, it can be assumed by a recruit that they may have an opportunity to have a NILs arrangement with a Nike related sponsor. This assumption could lead to questions pertaining to recruiting. That's the problem as I see it based on a short read.

Typical NCAA fashion. They drive by, throw a rule out. Then try to come back later and define how it should be be applied.
