I'm one who has lit up the boards recently regarding how lazy the lady vols play at times and how unprepared they are for supposedly average teams. The lady vols have had close calls since the season began, leaving me wondering when these all american 5 star players are going to reach that other gear. The coaches can't seem to get the best out of these players, to get them to play 40 minutes or even guide them in a way that their game improves. Tennessee has the talent to compete with anyone, but they aren't hungry. i for one am sick of the player interviews, where everyone seems to know what needs to happen, but no one has a clue how to make it happen once the game begins. as well spoken as cierra burdick is, i wish she would believe what she's saying during the interview and have that translate into action; after all, scouts had coronated her the next maya moore coming out of high school. (yep! hoopgurlz wrote that she could be Michael Jordan-esque and take over a game or she could play the Scottie Pipkin role). i'm ready for her to step-up and be MJ...lol! The last National Championship team had two losses - lost to Stanford in their gym and lost to LSU at home. Maybe this is a repeat of that season. One major problem is, there is no CP3 on this team, but with the right coaching, playing and all out "heart", this team has the pieces to make it happen. Ok, maybe I've lost my mind, but ijs.

It seems to me the LV "bigs" are taught to play defense with their feet flat on the floor with their arms held vertically. They are only allowed to jump off the floor on offense or when rebounding. Any team who has a player who can shoot over their arms or has the quickness to go around them will kick their butts. If the LSU center could play them every game, she would be a first team all-American.

Tired of seeing Massengale shoot layups into people's armpits. I thought she had gotten over this but after yesterday she apparently hasnt.

They certainly need their roles on the team defined and anyone not measuring up needs to be lit up by the team and the coaches. Whomever was guarding Ballard needed to be coached early and often. If they could not handle the job then the coaches have to make adjustments Ballard can't get that many layups and rebounds at 5'9" inches tall. A really weak effort for 34 minutes against LSU needed two technicals to wake up and play. We need more effort out of every player Holly needs to make sure they know what they are doing on the court. Very unacceptable play. This isn't the first time just happens to be magnified because it was a loss. A lot of halves have been really shabby all the way back to the Middle Tennessee game first half until now.

Does Warlick ever get in a player's kitchen? I never see her get angry or emotional with a player. Maybe I've missed it. I don't think she's very tough, at root--and her Vol teams are not very tough either. Massengale has been very good this year--she is very talented--but she does not seem to be much of a leader. Teams need leaders. Also, we need to be work harder and be more court-aware on defense. Lsu spreads the floor and a guard drives to the basket and scores--no help from other UT defenders. You don't follow a player way away from the basket if she's not a threat to score from there.

Burdick has been a disaster. I see her out on the court, but she doesn't do very much. She's got to start contributing more offensively. Warlick needs to light a fire under her. The fact that Simmons got NO SHOTs and NO POINTS in the second half is a massive Warlick FAIL. Inexcusable. The coach's job is to create opportunities for her best players. That is evidence of TERRIBLE coaching. Also, why was Simmons sitting on the bench while LSU extended their lead. I have advocated Carter playing more--and Carter had a bad game against LSU. That means you yank her and get Simmons back in the game. But Warlick seems not to see what the hell is going on on the floor. Most of the time, she leaves Simmons in games for too long when she is shooting poorly. Terrible personnel management. No confidence in Warlick.

Unfortunately for Holly, the girls are going to have to win the rest of the games on the schedule, except for maybe Notre Dame, or the calls to get rid of her are just going to get even louder.

As far as Caldwell goes, she and Warlick are great friends. I don't know how comfortable she would be taking over if Holly was let go. The only way I see that happening is if Holly "voluntarily" stepped aside. Jeff Walz on the other hand could be a different story.

I love my Lady Vols. I want to see them succeed and if they can do that under Holly then that is great. But, if they can't, then we need to get someone who can get us back to the top of women's basketball. With the talent we have there is no reason we should not be a top 5 team

Wes Moore has the NC State team at 13 and 1 and they beat LSU by ten. He is an up and coming coach handed Holly a loss in her first game as Tennessee coach. We sure need someone like him that can motivate a team. Caldwell just like Holly wins some big games and also loses some she should win. For the talent he has Wes has always won the games he was supposed to win and also pulled a few upsets.

i think it is way to early to be calling for CHWs job, lets see how the rest of the year plays out and she will probably be here for several years to come and your spot on about Caldwell Volfan, she is a good coach, but she has a way to go to be a great coach,of course, that is just my opinion, hopefully they can get Tyler back to UT in the near future, like in 2 or 3 years as an assistant and see how he does,he does need time away from the Vols, hopefully he will be an up and comer

I think Mule is right about Holly being here awhile. Also other posters are right about the problems with her and this Lady Vol team.We have heard it said in other posts that you can't teach effort. That is incorrect.Try this---no effort,no play. The effort would get there in a hurry.I,for one am anxious to see if Holly learned a lesson about how the team played after she was t'd up.It looked like a different group of girls( young ladies). They just figured out that their coach had their backs. And Izzy Harrison was All American caliber during that time. Why not all the time,Izzy?Pressing defense was excellent--- do it more!!And substitution patterns reflect a coach who is watching a game, rather than coaching her team. Are assistant coaches in charge of subbing in and out?Maybe I'm wrong, but I think Pat Summitt had an assistant in charge for substitutions. And also I want Tyler back here ASAP.

I truly believe every player goes on the court thinking they are giving their best effort. Effort is part mental and part physical. Both can be affected by coaching and every player needs to be approached differently.

Regarding the analysts. First, they often have a vested interest in the players they rate. Often the rating services are like ad agencies plugging certain players for their own personal reasons. Players have professional videos made to hype themselves in the eyes of coaches and fans. It's up to the coaches to figure out who actually fits with their team. There are only a few coaches who can pick the right people.

The concepts of heart, came to play, and all the other non-specific platitudes are just BS. Don't blame the players. They are what they are. If the coach picks a player that isn't coachable or doesn't truly have the required physical or mental skills, it isn't the players fault.

Obviously, Hoopgurlz was wrong about Burdick. That's not Burdick's fault, so why blame her? Blame Hoopgurlz and the LV coaching staff for not seeing through the hype.

It is possible that the LVs do not have "the pieces to make it happen." Just because they are highly rated players does not make them the best.

Tennessee really has to stop with the nepotism. Given her performance so far, thinking Holly will improve if given a few more years isn't clear thinking. Thinking that only someone from the Tennessee family can make things better (Mitchell, Caldwell, Tyler) is a path to ruin if others aren't considered.

I agree we can't talk about firing Holly just because she lost a game. It was a sorry effort but she must have the time to correct and get things on the right path. The right path would be at least an elite 8 or final four appearance and win the SEC title. That is not asking way to much for the talent on this team. Like I said Caldwell has lost to NC State this year and they got blasted a few times last years by teams well under their talent level. If we had come to play we wouldn't even be talking about her. Today is a big game we must win it will take 13 SEC wins to take the title can't afford to go 2 and 0.

Have to agree with this why we think we have to hire a former player or other Tennessee connected person is beyond me. We have to get someone who can recruit and has a program that will win at a high level with superb player execution. I am sure Holly is safe this year and next but my opinion is if she can't win the SEC and get to the elite 8 or even the final four with this group she has failed to get the most out of the players. I thought she was a person that would demand effort like Coach Summit but now I am totally confused about that and also her ability to make players better. Time to show some results not just talk about how were gonna get better.

To add when your on a team you have to know your role and execute that role. I don't think many of the Tennessee players know their role and certainly have not executed as players very efficiently. I am wondering why the coaches allowed Ballard for almost 40 minutes to get to the basket and out rebound our taller players. We have to adjust do whatever it takes to stop her. We have 5'9" inch players with as much talent as Ballard why can't they get to the basket and rebound. I have been very concerned about how this team has played this season. We got way behind at Middle Tennessee before we started to play. Same thing at Stanford. Several horrid halves at home then the bad loss to LSU. Players got to get on the same page not worry about who is scoring. Players have to be able to defend the player they are guarding if they can't Coaches must find someone who can. Nia has played as well in limited minutes as anyone on this team Holly should think about giving her a larger role.

Fire Warlick. Then offer Caldwell first. With a 5 yr. 1 mil. a yr. contract. She will come.
