Just so we are clear on the debt crisis:

1. Social Security hasn't caused it. Hasn't even come close to causing it.

2. Medicare spending could be curtailed by a National Health Service, and greatly reduce bills.

3. This is a manufactured crisis (by both parties, although one, of course, is being nutty extreme) in order to cut social programs which are not breaking the bank.

4. There has been no austerity for the bankers, industrialists, capitalists who have gutted the economy. In fact, money cannot be found fast enough or long enough for these Captains of Mismanagement.

These are the End Times of Late Capitalism. I can't help but look at what happened in Norway and ask - was he crazy? No crazier than the system which spawned him, that is the real answer.

We need new ideas. Neoliberalism has no legitimacy. Capitalism has no legitimacy. The Bronze Age has no legitimacy in our own historic time.

perhaps a combination of Logan's Run and Soylent Green, you solve two problems with that one, what to do with old people and how to feed the population.

maybe we could study the government under the United Federation of Planets during the time of Picard. According to him, the pursuit of wealth is no longer the driving force of human endeavor, although that's hard to square with his family's ownership of a massive winery in the French countryside.

While I agree with you - Gibbs is crazy...those insults were full of fail.

I was thinking it was one of those moments - where after the story, he looks around expectantly, looking for laughter...and finds none.

A major portion of the "debt-crisis" is looking forward to lower future, massive deficits that will add to the debt. SS will have it's impact there and thus is a legit target for reform.

2. Medicare spending could be curtailed by a National Health Service, and greatly reduce bills.

There are a host of alternatives that would also reduce bills.

3. This is a manufactured crisis (by both parties, although one, of course, is being nutty extreme) in order to cut social programs which are not breaking the bank.

Yes, I'm sure the secret planning for this began in the 80s

4. There has been no austerity for the bankers, industrialists, capitalists who have gutted the economy. In fact, money cannot be found fast enough or long enough for these Captains of Mismanagement.

Sure, no banks have gone out of business. No bank employees have lost their jobs. No capitalists lost any money. :whistling:

The real group that has had no austerity until just now that the Stimulus is running dry is GOVERNMENT. During a time of rising unemployment, GOVERNMENT grew. The Stimulus primarily kept GOVERNMENT employees on the job. You want to complain about not sharing the pain - look here first.

Yes - Capitalism put the gun in that guys hand. It's so clear.

Nice work throwing a mass murder terrorist attack into the debt ceiling debate.

perhaps these "rights" (assuming Norway has free-range strawberries and Pringles) are outweighed by oil royalties (a true sign of the bushwaz)

I find your comments about the banking sector most informative.

The entire thrust of US policy in that regard was to increase monopoly power. Do you find that interesting?

It is impossible to divorce Breivik and the system which has spawned him. War in the Americas, before the bourgeois European invasion, was more a game than industrial slaughter. "Counting coup" was deemed far more heroic and brave than shooting your enemy with an arrow.

Breivik is far from an isolated incident too, but more on that later.

Actually, the debt crisis was dreamed up in the 1980's. Have a look again:

For my edification, since you seem to be an expert on Native American culture and history, did the Plains' Indians (the only ones who, to my knowledge, ever counted coup) count coup prior to the arrival of the horse?

Again, I do not know the answer; however, if the answer is "no", then wouldn't that mean that the Europeans actually, albeit indirectly, brought a more peaceful means of warfare to these Native American tribes?

Also, that game the Mayans played in order to please the Sun God was not savage at all.

norway isn't one of your utopias? why the groundswell of discontent?

Also, vbham, could you name me (from the real world, please) one from your "host of alternatives" to the NHS system that could reduce the Medicare bills.

Something from the real world, please.

@droski - more on this later. "Right anger" is, in the first instance, shocking since the Right has been ascendant for nearly 40 years. Secondly, it has many shared characteristics with terror networks and terrorist cells.

a more peaceful means of warfare.... It kinda speaks for itself, doesn't it?

Even if we hold to your thesis (they counted coup before the horse, btw), it suggests that the culture defined the "rules" of warfare.

I'm not sure which savage game you are refering to, but I take it to mean human sacrifice as practiced for religious purposes. Based on some of your other posts, I'm sure the thread discussing THAT between us would be way, way, way too long.

Dumbest thread I've read in a couple years.

Just so we're clear - dumbest in years.

gibbs is either the most dedicated, skillful troll in VN's history or a complete nutcase - perhaps both.
