I have only started following basketball the past 3 or 4 years, really when CBP showed up on the scene. So what is everybody thing about CCM? I know that we are 2-0 right now but what are the comparison's between the two and does anybody think that he is better than Pearl?

Coach CM is a much better coach. You can see it already.
As for recruiting we shall see. Much different recruiting in the SEC than the MVC

Judging someone compared to another isn't really a fair thing. Especially two coaches as drastically different as Martin and Pearl. I'd say we'll be fine come the end of it, but to judge CCM now against a coach that had time to prove himself would be a bit unfair.

Thanks I just wanted some input from other VN members. I am slowly but surely learning about basketball. I feel like that CCM is a better coach.

Pearl will be a better cheerleader and more fan interactive but as far as coaching goes I'll take Coach Martin any day. He comes from the Gene Keady coaching tree and will DEMAND his players hustle and play smart. He also shows signs of being a players coach and a solid recruiter also.

I love CCM's intensity. I'm noticing a HUGE difference with half court offense, even though most of it seems to be run through variations of a simple motion (thus far). I like how quickly we can get back in transition.

So--so far, so good. Keep it up. GBO

They are different coaches that's for sure.
I agree with the sentiment that CCM is the better coach but CBP was quite the recruiter and got the people excited.
Tough to choose between the two but i am certainly very pleased thus far with coach martin both in his coaching and his overall likability.

Just from what I know now because of CCM short tenure...

Pearl is a much better promoter
Pearl is a much better recruiter
Pearl brings excitement year round

Martin appears to be a better player developer. Especially developing guards.
Martin's offense seems to get much better open shots.

I think most of Pearl's teams played just as hard as the 3 games I have seen from CCM.

One of the thing that I loved about Pearl is that the team that he may be playing may have much better talent, but he will still come out with the win more times than not.

I agree that pearl's teams got up to play the big games and were very competitive against some of the best teams in the country. But in the same respect pearl had some pretty notable let downs. His teams play seemed to go along with how emotionally involved they were. Not a very business like approach.

Lets not get the Pearl Bashing going .. everyone loved Pearl, he brought our program from no one to someone, from a NIT question mark to sweet 16s an elite 8, dominance over memphis and florida, and a #1 ranking with several huge top 5 wins..
all that being said, i think CCM will be fine, but im not saying anything about his coaching style til i see our boys play some legit compitition like were about to get in maui

Very well put, and dead on. Let this play out a little while before we carve Martin's bust in bronze. Martin may reach that same level of success, or he may fall flat on his face.

Too early to tell but always said Pearl wasnt too much about the player development. I think CCM will develop players exponentially better than Pearl.

If your basing Pearl's career on last year's team then I totally agree.

But I wouldn't put the Watson, Lofton, JuJuan Smith, Chism, Bradshaw years in as not being emotionally involved and not very business like.

Too early to tell. However, so far I like howCCM has handled this team. He sits players that are not playing defense and leaves players in the game that are playing D and have the hot hand on offense. One thing I did not like about Pearl was his substitution patterns. Seemed to sub every 5 minutes which made it hard to get in the flow. HTis team is going to take some lumps this year but CCM is 1 big recruit away from competing for SEC Championships. (We need Stokes!!!)

Bruce Pearl's winning percentage is INCREDIBLY high. I have nothing against Cuonzo, but to say he is a better coach than Pearl at this point in his young coaching career is ludicrous. They are very different coaches and it's way too hard to see if Cuonzo compares to Pearl right now.

I think we are 2 recruits, 1 shooter and one big man, from competing for an SEC Championship.

I support coach Kudzu Marlin

EDIT: Oh man, I just realized that we can call him "Coach K"

+10000000000 Anybody that is already saying Martin is a better coach than Pearl after two games against extremely weak competition is being ridiculous.
