Would someone mind explaining to me what is South about San Diego CA, Pittsburgh, PA, or Indianapolis, IN?

What is Midwest about Greenville, SC, or East about Fort Worth, TX and Portland, OR?

Why are not all of the play in games for the 16 seed?

All of this is almost as ridiculous as Tennessee getting a 3 seed.

If they are not going to follow geography why not just call it Bracket 1,2,3 and 4?

Opening rounds aren’t geographic specific anymore. The Regionals have the labels relative to each other.

The 1st/2nd round sites aren’t tied to the regions. It’s not until you get to the sweet 16 that the locations match the regions.

I agree they should be but I think they did it this way because 11/12 seeds at least have a better shot at winning in the next game. If it were all 16 seeds it's basically cementing the "play in" games are worthless.

That's easy, they are south of Antarctica (using the same metrics the committee did). I am looking for the Antarctic polar bear to field a pretty mean team next year.

I know Antarctica is south of Greenville, Fort Worth and Portland, but if you keep going south from Antarctica you get to all of those places.

It appears that they already consider the conference tournament games to be worthless, so why not the "play in" games, as it is clear that they are in reality just a money grab for 4 extra games to line the NCAA's pockets.

The play in games are 11 seeds because they consist of teams that are better than the 16 seeds. The 16/15/14 seeds are mid majors who have earned automatic bids. So you can’t force them to “play in” because they already earned the automatic bid. But you still don’t wanna put the mid-major automatic bid teams at 11 and the play-in teams at 16, because that wouldn’t be fair to the 1 seeds, since the teams in those play-in games are better (like Indiana) than those mid majors who are the 16.

It actually does make sense.

I’ve wondered about it, too. Just like I continue to question why the University of Missouri and Texas A&M University are in the so-called Southeastern Conference.

If the internet works on a binary code, how much better would it work if it were more inclusive, say with a trinary system of codes? Hmmmmmm.. . . .

The directions are for the 4 cities the regional finals are in. There are 8 other sites (two for East, south, Midwest and west geographically) but they can be utilized in any bracket

Piittsburgh and Buffalo- East
Portland and San Diego - west
Milwaukee and Indy - Mw
Ft worth snd Greenville - south

There are always two designated sites in each region but they can be used in ANY region to separate the teams out
