Probably the biggest reason that we don't have any commits, minus having a new coaching staff, is the fact that a scholarship to UT is not a valuable to a football recruit who would be considered "elite", as say a Alabama or Florida. Winning has everything to do with kids thinking you have a got commodity to sell and invest in the long haul with. Once they start seeing how we play on the field, and how this coaching staff competes with the others in the conference, then prospects will have an idea on where we are going. Remember, prospects NEVER look at things in 1 year increments, they look at the long term. If they see we can be competitive, then they will commit earlier and earlier, so they don't run the risk of not being able to get a scholarship guaranteed before NSD.

Too early for concern, but this is a good point... I think we should let those who can't help but worry, and share their concern with fellow Volnationers, worry. All the while, we can focus our energy elsewhere.

Great post, Eric. I agree with you 100%. I really like where we are heading with our recruiting right now. We closed very strong last year with some great prospects that UF, Bama, UGA, and LSU all wanted and finished with back to back Top 10 classes. I have went back today and rewatched the film on all of our 2010 signees and I am really pumped about our future. Combine that with some of the great players that signed in 2009 and we have a very bright future. With the start of the 2011 class, I absolutely love Christian Harris' film, his instincts are incredible, and Posey is an athletic OL that plays with a passion on the field. We are in great shape with our top QB target (Worley) and seem to be in great shape with a ton of OL, which is our biggest need in this class. We are in the thick of it for some bigtime DBs and seem to be pickup up with our DL Recruiting. I think this class could really get going really soon with a couple of commitments(Kerbyson, Clear, Randolph, Anderson, and Worley).

You are stating the obvious, and making a point why we fired Fulmer at the right time... if not a tad bit too late. The program is mediocre and it hasn't had an identity since the early 2000's...

We'll win 6-7 games maybe 8 if we get some nice bounces. I wouldn't worry about getting blown out by everyone. If we can get a solid win against a quality team early in the season, that will do our team wonders down the stretch. Success breeds success, especially in recruiting.

We have to stay competitive in our games (Unlike the Magic right now). That will show recruits that UT needs their help to get this program where it needs to be.

I think most of our class this year comes from Tennessee and Georgia. It will be an outstanding class in character and talent. And we will get PLENTY of the OL and DL players we need.

Richardson from Ensworth would be a huge grab.

Our class will, should be heavy with lineman, therefore not highly ranked. The services will not give a top 10 rating to a class that is mostly OL &DL which this class should&needs to be.

That's about as well as it can be said.

Doesn't seem like it applied to you at all then, since you clued in on what I said. It was obvious to you, but probably obvious to like 90% of the board complaining about lack of commits.
