If you’ve been watching CFB for awhile, you know that it is cyclical when it comes to major programs.

You name the big program and it’s had a 15-20-ish year drought - often times more than once.

I really think Heupel is the man to put us in yet another long period of success (Hopefully more Neyland-like win % wise)

Everyone talks about our run of bad teams and coaches, (and they should), but look at how far Miami and FSU have fallen in the past decade. Georgia is having it's run right now. Alabama might be fading. It's just about finding that right coach at the right time. Hopefully, we've found ours.

I agree whole heartedly. It is so difficult to get into the playoffs as most teams have elite players, and it’s tough to win a SEC away night game. That’s why last night’s loss still stings as we were two wins away against inferior opponents from a possible playoff birth. TN still needed a TCU loss and/or USC loss, imo.

Call me crazy but I will feel better going 10-2 and missing the playoffs than 11-1 and missing the playoffs. A 10-2 record means we lost it on the field instead of a committee selecting another one loss team.

I hope Heupel is indeed the coach as can’t help but allow some doubt to creep into my psyche. Will opposing coaches be able to adapt and adjust to slow down the TN offense? And, will Heupel be able to put together an elite defense to get us to the promise land? There are going to be games where the offense must win the game and times when the defense will need to put together a performance because the offense is struggling (see UGA last night).

And Nebraska. Will they ever climb out? Hard pitch to recruits this day and age.

With big Agri-businesses running the show more and more, are the “cornbread fed” boys out there as much? They used to have pretty good success with walk-ons....

Miami and Florida State were dominant programs when they were independent programs, not living off a conference brinks truck, such that to have a program, to have TV exposure, to have recruits, to have a following, the job was simple . . . . they had to win games and lots of them,

Now as members of the ACC, their mediocrity generates millions from the conference coffers and the edge and swagger that made them formidable is long gone,

I’m thinking FSU is a potential gold mine. Great location. Elite recruiting state. Outside of Clemson, ACC is pretty much up for grabs.

With the right coach they could get back to what they once were. Maybe they have the right guy now. Took Bowden more than a decade to win a title.

Yeah, forgot about that. FSU didn't join the ACC till '91 or '92. Whole lot easier to have a great run when you're picking your own schedule.
