Isiah Thomas is in serious negotiations to be the coach at Florida International.

He's a serious idiot, but he has to help them from a recruiting perspective. They'll be essentially uncoached, but should see a serious increase in talent.

Maybe he could be the figurehead coach to recruit like you guys are saying and they can hire a real coach for the basketball team.

I can't believe nobody in the NBA has had this conversation with Thomas:
NBA Owner: Isiah, do you want back in the League?
Thomas: Of course.
Owner: Alright, here's my offer. You're going to be our director of college scouting. The one thing you've proven to be among the best in the Association at is evaluating talent for the Draft. Now, you're not to get within 1,000 yards of our players, coaches, secretaries, janitors, etc. You'll scout the college game and run the selection process. That's it.
Thomas: But, but...
Owner: Shut the Hell up. It's either my offer or the worst coaching job in the Sun Belt.
Thomas: I'm in. When do I start?

sorry hat, I believe your thread is about to go downhill very quickly...will try to keep on topic.

He seems a bit like basketball's version of George O'Leary, but with a little more fail involved.

I don't understand this comparison.

Went to a big time program, embarrassed himself miserably, and, if all goes to plan, ends up in florida as a coach of a so so college program.

O'Leary can actually coach, however.

Not that I don't like it, I just didn't understand it.

Regardless, it's a joke that Thomas is even considered for a coaching job right now where he could influence a young person's life.

Agreed wholeheartedly, but he'll help some recruiting.

I have a lot of doubts with this move. Does this guy even know the first thing about recruiting? I mean I guess he can just flash the rings but he went from being coach of the New York Knicks, arguably one of the most prestigious jobs in the world, to coaching FIU???? What's going on in his head I wonder?
